GBH Rookery

The forecast was for sunny skies but I was too early and the morning clouds had not burned off....the best laid plans.....

I have a Great Blue Heron rookery about 5 miles from home that becomes quite active this time of year.

There is a GBH sanctuary not far from here, but we have never hit it the right time of year. May have to grab the camera and head up one night this week.

I have my steelhead gear ready waiting for your call. ;-)

You captured that rookery beautifully. What kind of tree is that? Just imagine the activity that will take place as the youngsters begin to grow.
With all of that snow, I would imagine that the streams and rivers will be flowing heavily this year. Hope it doesn't flood.

That is cool. I'm certain that I've never seen a rookery of GBH...heck, I'm trying to remember seeing more than one together in the same place, they are such solatary birds.

For the record, from the pictures, I belive that is a sycamore tree.

Thanks everybody

Chuck and Dennis...you are correct...it is a Sycamore tree.

The rookery is located in Sand Run Metropolitan Park and this small area of about 5 acres in a multi thousand acre park attracts up to 150 birds yearly.

The Cuyahoga River flows about 200 yards from this area of Sycamore trees.
