Help, I cannot seem to get my pictures small enough to post. I used to use a software called JPEG wizzard but lost it when we got a new computor. I know I have asked this before but none of the tips worked or maybe it's the loose nut behind the keyboard. I need some thing , even setting my camera to the lowest resolution gets me down to 148 or so. I can probably crop thjose but there has to be another way.

Tom,

You should have a picture program on your computer that you normally use to work with your photos. I use "microsoft picture it". I will save a special copy of my picture (that I want to post). When I save it I have an option as to the pixel resolution that I save as. If I choose 72 dpi I can usually come in under the limit. Cropping alone on a high resolution picture will not be enough, as you have found out.

Hope this helps. If not don't expect any more help from me this evening as it it already way past my bed time. Like a little kid I just had to make one quick check of the board before turning in. :>)

Tom,there should be a free program in your new computer (90 days) that you can use. After the 90 days,I went to Picasa, also free to size my pics. The only thing I can't figure out is how to fill up the page and still keep it under 100 KB.

Easiest way I have found, assuming you have a reasonably sized picture (I believe they allow up to 1MB, I usually have my camera set around 500 kb) is to upload to photobucket.com (you will need to create an account) and you can resize there. Once uploaded go to edit, then resize, and pick either website (smaller, but visiable) or message board (full screen width). I figure you might as well use up "free" server space than make Eric pay the tab. To post the picture within your text, just click on where it says IMG Code to copy, then paste within the text of your post. You can post multiple pictures with discriptions in between.

For croping and other nonsense I use PhotoShop, but there are many free, downloadable editing software packages available, just do a google search.

Thanks guys, I found one called PIX resizer hidden in here that seems to work OK. Dave, If I hadn't gotten so worked up trying to post those pictures I would have been long asleep myself. Stay warm.

Tom,

I use a free program called Irfanview. The interface is kind of clunky, but it is free. It works very well for the price... I downloaded it from their website, which I googled up.

I use Microsoft Office Picture Manager, if you open Windows Explorer & right click on the file you want to reduce, you can go down to "Open With" and select it (if you have it on your computer). Works well.

Go to www.cnet.com for all the free software downloads that are available. It's an excellent site with reviews, endless categories of software, freeware, and buying options. They cover everything that's computer related. The best thing is that it's a trustworthy and secure site for downloads...no viruses or spyware.

If you're only trying to resize it for posting then try this:

go to photobucket.com
create an account
upload photos from desktop(no matter the size)
copy IMG code into the post

The site will automatically resize the image for you.

No need to do all this downloading and photobucket etc. just use paint and go to image and skew. Just reduce the image by a percentage and you'll easily achieve the lower file size. Its very simple to do.

My photos are usually around 1.5 MBs, much nicer. Load them to photobucket.com and you won't have to worry about the size. It does it automatically.

The site will automatically resize the image for you. Apparently I'm using the wrong photobucket as that does not happen when I attempt to post a picture. I get the message that the picture exceeds the limit.

Thanks all, (even you Mark) I will try the photobucket sometime but the pixsizer I found seems to work on photos I set the camera to the lowest setting. I apreciate all the help. "Learn more here by accident"
