Ghg keel grabbers

Has anyone ever used these in the river with 7.5 oz'ers? I know people have mixed reviews about the durability of the black aplastic bands, but can these weights hold up in the ohio river? Thanks for any input!

I use them but a few seasons in they are starting to brake. But they keep they keep the lines nice.next time I tie mine I will do a type of loop knot so it doesn't squeeze the rubber so tight. Or if you use crimps that probably be even better.

In the off season I store the weights on the shelf unhooked from the keel. Yes you will get dryrot over time but a roll of surgical tubing is a good trick for replacing. I also pickup the tanglefree rubbers when I see them cheap for the j hooks without hog rings

My first question would be what kind of decoys goose or duck? I would think duck dekes would be fine in a decent flow now goose I would step it up no lighter than 12oz regardless.

You can find them online in heavier weights. I have used them for a few seasons, they work well but after3-4 seasons the bungees need to be replaced and if you have very strong current I'd opt for a little bit heavier than 7.5oz

If the bottom is soft they will hold in a moderate to fast current. If the current really gets moving or grass and other debris gets caught on the lines, they will not hold well. I have spent a lot of time chasing dekes in moving water with those anchors.

Now, some of that was due to debris and another time it was due to my lines being too short to accommodate for the rise in tide. The lines have been taken care of, so tide height hasn't been an issue, but debris will always be something to watch out for. That is likely the case with any anchor though.
