Gil-Bilt?

Anybody heard of these plans from back in the sixties? I saw a couple of items on craigslist and did some searching and found out a little about them.
I called and got a catalog coming my way. They do not have a web presence but the lady on the phone was very nice and helpful. Let me know if any of you have experience with this company. I may build a bandsaw just to see if I can. HA! HA!http://gilliom-gil-bilt-tool-hunter.blogspot.com/

If you like to tinker you can do it. I bought the bandsaw plans back in the late 80's and then went with a Delta.
I think you would be better off buying a used older machine and restoring it vs. building a wood machine and then trying to sell it later.
There is a lot of good old Iron out there and it will be smoother and more stable than the wood.

If you can learn welding, steel tube stock makes for stiff frames for home built equipment.

I haven't done this, but have heard of it. A friend has a stationary belt/disk sander that his dad made, very likely from this company's kit but I don't think he ever said the name. He said his dad had built several machines (he's a retired vocational ed teacher). He's not the type to half-a$$ something together, so I'd bargin to say they are decent kits. I'll be seeing him (the dad) next month, if I remember, I'll bring it up. I wouldn't mind having a combo sander myself, but I think for a bandsaw, table saw of jointer, I'd rather have a metal machine.

Thanks for the replies guys. I do not "need" a bandsaw, it would be more of a little project to see if I could come up with something. I have a mig and thought about using a metal frame and plywood skin. Oh well I ordered a catalog, so if I decide to build one I will post pics of the process here. Shawn
