Good news...I've got wood!

Ok, so maybe not the best title for this thread, but I'm really excited. I was kinda bummed out when I found out how much it would cost to get some Okoume ply sent here (Kansas) from Edensaw or World Panel...something like $600. I contacted a friend who owns a ski boat dealership here in town, and he directed me to a local lumber company that he though had marine ply. I called them and it turns out that they have Okoume ply in 1/4", 1/2" and 3/4". WOOHOO! I think the price is decen too: $26.66 for the 1/4". $35.55 for the 1/2", and $45.89 for the 3/4". Total for my wood will be just under $200. Does that sound about right for Ok ply?

Thanks,
Hunter

ps - Looks like the DH will be under-way soon!

Sounds damn cheap! Some import underlayments have been coming in with Okoumee faces on them..make sure it is BS1088 standards tested marine ply. It should have a sticker or brand on the edge. If it is ..you lucked out and hit the motherload.

On the face of it, I would say it is way, way too cheap. Is it BS1088 certified? If I remember right my 3/4 was over $100/sheet 4 years ago and I picked it up from World Panel.

I have lost touch with marine plywood prices lately.

I forgot to ask if it was 1088...DOH! But when I asked for the okoume ply he said "AAhhh-ha, going with the best then..." I figured it was the right stuff. These guys called it "AC Superply". I think World Panel called their's "Aquaply" and "Hydroply". It is about the same price as EdenSaw quoted me, just waayyyy less total because there is no shipping. Is okoume made in any other standard besides 1088? 6566 would suit me just fine, so hopefully it is 1088 or 6566. I'll call them tomorrow to double check. You are right though, does seem too good to be true. Every time I think I am catching a break, I end up getting kicked in the wood, so to speak. Thanks for the reality check, and for bringing me back down from the clouds.hehe

AC Superply is a domestic plywood with a thin very smooth face of mahogany of different genus...I think genus is the right term as "mahogany" is kind of a houshold name for any rainforest luan. It could even be radiata pine. I have seen offered (I'm in the lumber business) Chinese import underlayments that claim Okoume faces..the plies could be almost anything. Like Eric said, look on the panel for stamps, stickers or edge branding that will ensure you are truly getting "marine" plywood. I hope it is for your sake..always enjoy hearing someone got lucky.
