Gotta brag on my dog

I sent Angel-dog to the UKC/HRC Spring Grand with a pro trainer friend of mine, named Ron Fruidenberg. I didn't have the time to devote to training every day all day for 4 weeks, plus the 5-day event itself.
And, honestly, I don't think my handling skills are yet advanced enough for that level of competition.
Anyway, Angel was one of the 42 dogs that passed!
I'm really proud of her. Wer're discussing plans for the Fall Grand, which is to be held in http://www.huntingretrieverclub.org/GRAND%20FALL/Map%202007%20Fall.htm"] Webberville, MI.[/url]
I have a lot of training to do this summer.

On another note:
I had dinner with Hans Binsch out in Sacramento. (Thanks, again Hans)
We had a great, but regrettably short visit. It's always a pleasure to talk duck hunting with a fellow duckaholic.

Take care, all.

Thank you, Eric.
That's the plan. She went into the grand with only 100 points, the min required. We need another 120 points in addition to a second grand pass.
Might have to get serious about going to some hunt tests that require a long drive.

thats way cool bro. ron is part of the flight c thingy... I probably saw your dog run and didnt know it. congrats.

I lost my little dog to purina test, first series.. probably coulda played it safe, and squeeked thru with a marginal score. not me, he went down in a blaze of glory on a truely bad mofo of a bird. Rowdy got a marginal score there. 2nd series, we had one cast refusual, got a 2 & 1 and we where done. Kinda sucked to survive a tuff test, only to get scored out on a rinky dink. Thats the breaks, we've been there enough to know it.

Had 5 live ducks swimming thru my waterblind on purina. called the judges attetion to it, and then said back, before they could tell me to take my dog off line. way cool to cast your dog off live ducks on a grand waterblind... hehe. travis

Travis-

Do you think you have a Grand dog if you can't cast it off live birds? Just wondering you thought on that, not picking at you.

Looking forward to the Grand being a northern state for a change!

Have a good day,
Cory

actually, it was pretty funny... rowdy held his initial line about 85 yards, he then hooked left to give chase to the ducks that had swum into the pocket to left... I stopped him, and gave him a silent right back... he turned right, but immedately went back left. Stopped him, and gave a silent right back, he carried the cast 30 yards, and one more little left back picked up the bird. a friend was in holding blind, and could see the judges score it. one of the judges charged me with a cast refusual for the dog going to the left on the first right back... the other judge looked and it, and smacked dude, and told him i just casted off 5 live ducks! my friend could see/hear them, I couldnt, I was laughing too hard. I turned around and asked whut ya'll think about dat? he said, sir you truely got grand control on that dog, nice. I knew my buddy was in the holding blind, so I responded, yeah, but dat fat sunofagun with the next dog coming up doesn't, mite wanna get those ducks outta the test. bwhahahahah.

rowdy has run so many waterblinds with live ducks or geese around, it doesnt faze him. He knows the difference, when he can chase and when he can't. he knows the difference between hunting, and running a blind where I get him there, and he does the rest, and training/test where its all me directing and him following. cool to see them understand and switch gears like that. travis
