...not in the number of ducks killed but in the beauty of the day.....
I took a guy from work and his 11-year old son out for their first ever duck hunt. The morning started out sort of rough with the 5 hp not loving the thick hydrilla and the 10-15 mph winds adding to the problem. I had to jump out and pull the boat a ways to clearer water so we could get to my blind site. Once there we did got set-up and waited.
That 10-15 mph wind was dead to our faces so i knew we would be lucky to have birds drop in but was hoping for some passing shots. Those never materialized for us though but we did a few flocks to at least try to work our spread for my guests to enjoy and stay excited.
The greatest part of the day was seeing the sheer number of ducks. We had a decent first at light flight but as the morning progressed we saw flock after flock riding the winds and looking for a place to rest. I have not seen that many ducks in a long time. We saw mallards, pintails, widgeon, teal, and i think one group of canvasbacks come down the river and fly through our portion of the marsh in flocks of all sizes....just awe inspiring......the geese were also there in good numbers....
Oh, and only shot twice at some teal and missed as they passed by at mach 4 (thats how the young boy described them).
