Guntersville--Scottsboro

Anyone still in that area? Planning a quick trip down for a few days escape mid _January but haven't hunted there in years. Jon E still around here to give me updates?

John,

If you're coming you might think to bring some ducks with you. Eric is out on the management area today and has had several hunts at both Crow Creek and Raccoon Creek. Only one repectable hunt and severl hunts with no shots fired. He may give you a report later. Last year was crazy good for Cans, Redheads, Scaup and Ringers. Good Luck!

That sounds like most of the middle states. Global warming or bad weather or Karma.

Even if no ducks I am trying out a new boat and can't wait to get it in the water so fun will be had there. War Eagle 1542 w/ Backwater 23 LT, that is what I got after selling the 17'TDB here.

In addition I am bringing three labs that need some water time, ours is solid up here and we need to get ready for some early AKC hunt tests. Heading to TX in Feb for the dogs. One a CLF has Q's for MN x 2 and needs a couple more passes for 2015 and a YLF pup 20 months has 1 master pass and need 5 more before July 31 to Qualify. Hope to get both done. The third gal is YLF 10.5 y/o and has been a wonderful field dog that just wasn't good enough for HT or FT. No matter they are all our dogs and we wouldn't trade any one of them for less than a hellofalotofmoney......BSEG!

More hunters than ducks.
Ths locals spend all day riding around with their un muffled mud motors. On a local forum I saw last week that the "Duck Commandos" have even started shooting the coots. Public hunting has hit a new low if that were possible.
You probably won't go broke buying shells.

If its like south Alabama, as of this last weekend, nothing but coots, "stale" gadwalls and a handful of divers.
Last time we hunted the morning, I have never seen so many boats out after opening day in all my years of hunting Mobile . Duck Dynasty has taken over. Mud motors and moto-ducks as far as one can see.....
Maybe this serious of cold fronts will push birds down, but I am not hopeful. We haven't had a great season since 2004-05, and the last three would not even rate as good.
