Some of you probably know I am very involved with Michigan Duck Hunters Association. I work with the Webfoot Internet chapter but most of these boxes were provided by the Mac Bay chapter. Its nice to see the chapters working together. Last year Bluewater provided boxes for me to install.
Started my morning around 7:00 it was raining and 42 degrees perfect day to spend in the woods and on the water.
The frost is still coming out of the roads up here so the trails are really soft right now. I had to do a lot of walking so the cool weather was a nice bonus. Here is how I carried the boxes and the tools needed.
I dont know how many of your trap but this is a castor mound made by a beaver. Its a teritorial marking. This caught my eye because it looks like a perfectly made set by a trapper. Turns out it was made by a beaver
Here is the first box installed. This is one of my favorite beaver ponds and I am intersted to see how the boxes will do here.
These two were not very happy to see me. Look close anything else??
After finishing up on that pond I walked into another more recently built pond. It still has standing timber in it and in addition it holds a nice rookery as well. I was surprised to find this pond is deep enough that you could go over waders if not carefull. I never hunted it last year.
The box in this pond was difficult to mount and should have been done on ice but I waited to long. I had to pull over a dead fallen tree to stand on. Thought for sure I would get wet.
Last pic of the day. Going out tomorrow to hang a few more and do a nesting tube if I have time.
