Half time report from Mb deer season.

I got down here Wed afternoon, Nov 11th, and couldn't pass this guy up Friday morning. A smaller buck was his undoing. The big guy had a doe in the grass, both bedded, and I was glassing the smaller buck when the big guy came out to fight him off. It only lasted a few seconds, but I happened to be looking that way and was able to sneak in on him. He's not the biggest deer ever, but he's my biggest. I just love the drive right up to the dead critter part of farm country hunting. Great for anyone with mobility issues.

I'm the guy who has time to skin other people's deer, which is interesting to see the other antlers. A smooth one.

And a rough one.

My niece (16) came out with me on the weekend to check some beaver traps, and hauled a big 50lb'er out for me.

She's never caught anything before and man was she excited.

Nice buck and nice beaver!
Did you let her skin it out too? They gotta be the toughest critter to get the hide off of.

No I skinned it Carl. She's just the rookie muscle, no skills yet. : )

Good one Dave, actually I found those in my dad's garage and used them to mark where I put the traps. That way if I had to ask someone else to go check them they could find them, and when I couldn't remember where I put them I'd have a clue. Today is day 3 and haven't lost one yet!

My memory is so bad these days, I have to park in the same place at the grocery store each time I go or I won't find my vehicle. : )

Funny thing about tenderloins. If anyone hangs a deer in my garage it always seems to be a deer that didn't have tenderloins when they cut it up. I tell them some are born without tenderloins!
