Kristan,
New moves are normally more involved than one thinks. I'm sure by next fall you will have everything in order and will be ready to go duck hunting. Good luck in finding some good places to hunt by the way.
Happy New Year!

Kristan,
Happy new year to you and all the rest of the DHBP family.
Dont fret the move. You are in the hart of some serious pork and duck hunting and I have no doubt that you will find a friend quick and wind up on some shoots you will not forget. Texas has some very nice birds and other exciting hunting.

I made the family a double batch of Buttermilk Biscuits from a new recipe I found that came with a gravy how to as well.
Mixed in a little hog sausage from an adventure last year in E Texas. What a treat for the new year.

Including photos such as your delicious breakfast photo indicates you have an underlying mean streak. You may want to work on that during 2012. Happy new year to you and yours. Your breakfast even smells good, at least from here. :>)

Buttermilk Biscuits

2 C flour
5 tsp Baking Powder
2 tsp Sugar
1\2 tsp salt
1\4 C Shortening
1 C Buttermilk

Mix dry ingredients, cut in shortening. Add Buttermilk and turn just enough to incorporate. You want to work the dough the least you can to mix it.

Flatten out on a floured surface and punch out your biscuits with a glass or cutter. Onto a buttered cookie sheet and into a 450 oven till brown on top, 15 min...... or so.
I us. double this recipe and it goes fast in my house.

Gravy.
Brown sausage or bacon in Pan.
With Bacon drippings in an iron skillet, Wisk in flour and keep it moving to just brown it, about 1\2 cup.

Add Milk slowly to mix as you keep mixing it. Amount is dependent on how thick you like it. Add fresh cracked pepper and keep stirring. When it is as thick as you like and smooth I add 2 tsp of chicken base from a jar but you could use chicken stock but it will thin it out a bit. Simmer if it does. Add sausage and serve over hot biscuits.

Dont tell your heart guy who gave it to you.

Bob
