Heel training

My friend and I both got new Chessie pups. Here's the question.
He is right handed but shoots lefty. My suggestion is to train the heel on his right side. Would appreciate some feed back.

I also am right handed but shoot lefty. I train my dogs to heel to both sides but I prefer them on the right to my free hand.

I too am righty but shoot left. I've always trained my Chessie to heel on my left side for walking and my right when laying down and shooting.

That's intestering Jack, Being the lefty I am always put to cover the right side in our field spread. I always keep him on the inside of the blinds because I have no shot to my left and it is easier to conceal him in between the blinds. When I'm over water I like him on the right ,easier to mark the falls, and when I'm shooting he needs all the help he can get:))

Train him to do both right and left. A leg slap or finger snap to direct him to which side.

Its a Chessy it can handle both sides!

A fourth or fifth vote for both sides. It is easy to do and will make it much easier when you want the dog to changes sides for whatever reasons.

I used to keep my dogs on my left and soon discovered the many advantages of heeling
on both sides. It's easy to train, John

On the Left

Sometimes on the Right

Yesterday I took Gus for a work out. I think the reason I've always heeled and walked them on my left side, is when I trow a bumper with my right hand, he's not in he way and I don't hit him
