Me and Jane and the kids went for a little toot in Delmar's helicopter Fri after school. I won the time at a silent auction fundraiser in the winter. We were expecting about 1/2 of air time but the pilot had us up for almost an hour. Its $1200/hr for helicopter time right now so that was a VERY generous gift of him. The kids were yapping the whole time - "Look at that!" "Over here!" "I feel like I'm gonna puke!". It was awesome. We didn't get too far from town of course but he showed us where the salmon go when they get upstream from town, I spotted a wolf kill, and we saw a momma moose with twins, but didn't get too close in case we stressed her out. Awesome Mike. Looks like a great time with the fam and it looks like it was an amazing view. It sure would make scouting easier if you had access to a chopper wouldn't it?

I got sucked into a tourist trap and took a helio ride around Niagra Falls. That's the first and only time I've been in one. Pretty cool to see the Falls from that perspective. My wife and I really debated taking one on Kuai when we were there but the costs were really steep.

Here's a spot I knew well at one time years ago. It was my first year big game hunting up here, and me and my buddy Andy were headed back into the hills to find a caribou. I piled my truck into this mud hole and got stuck. It took us two days to walk back to the Alaska Highway and hitch hike into town. It was a big deal getting it back I tell ya.

Here's the original event. I think it was 1995.

Very cool. I haven't been in a whirly bird before. I'd probably be the one saying "I'm going to puke"....hehe.
Looks like a good time had by all.

Sorry, I never thanked Jane for getting Gus's urn shipped while you were down. Tell her I really apprieciated it would you? Good to see your up and can function. I trust the surgery was a success?

I always feel a little iffy in helicopters and small planes. I will tell Jane you said thanks and the surgery was a success, I think. Still lots of pain from the bone graft and screws as well as swelling and the old nerve pain I always had BUT the doc said not to expect too much until about Aug. I'm down to about 4 - 6 Percocets a day now, from 12 when I got out of the hospital. And I've been off the cane for several days now WooHoo!

Nope that's my buddy from Manitoba, Andy. All we had was a shovel. We got it out with a jack-all and a chainsaw. Jacked the back end up, built a corduroy road under it with logs, jacked the front end up, finished the road, and drove it right off. If I had a been better prepared we could have skipped the two day march to the road!

Smart man Mike, keeping a big dude like Andy around for all of the grunt work.

Looking forward to hearing more stories from him about your adventures if we make it to Manitoba this year, then you can tell your side of the story in Westlake!

Pretty big I thought Dave - maybe high 50's. Not a 60" bull though. The pilot said he had seen that bull in that spot several times over the years, but I guess his number came up this fall or early winter. He was in a spot that was inaccessible by hunters, even on horseback, so it must have been wolves.

Never believe Andy's stories!

Helecopter rides? couldn't wait for me, huh? just kidding.

I just crosssed over into Alberta and am at the visitor center. I almost did a Dave Sikorski repeat at the border. Pulled into the wrong lane just because it was shorter. Piece of advice to others,,,,,,,, DON'T DO THAT! I even lied to them about your paint Mike. Told them I wasn't bringing anything in to give or sell to others. :>) :>)

Hey Dave! You made it into my country comrade! AND you got the paint. Awesome. Can you show me how to paint an 18' boat?

Enjoy the Bow Valley, and keep you eye out for little blue ducks - they nest in the fast rivers there. If you hit any elk or sheep, toss them in the back and we'll have a big ass bar b q when you get here.

You mean the river flowing through town? I took the picture looking pretty much south, and the river is headed N. That's the Yukon River.

Nice pics and tale Mike.Thanks for sharing.Last chopper I flew in was OD and had two gunners out the side doors.
 
Mike, great photos, I think I would have been after the pilot to land so I could go after the moose horns!!

I get to fly alot in my job, one of the better parts of what I do, but the things I have to haul out sometimes isn't as nice as a set of moose horns.

Guys there is much more to mikes story of the truck in the bog than he is letting on. I was with him on this adventure, as well as many more, and there is more to tell if you bug him long enough!!! andy
 
Don't believe him - Andy got worked over by a cow with foot rot a couple of years ago and he's not right in the head bone.
