Help buying a new gun

I've narrowed my choices down to 2 guns after handling a bunch at the local Gander Mtn. The Winchester SX3 and the Beretta Xtrema 3. Does anyone know of any problems with either guns. After my last 2 auto's I'm hoping the 3rd time will be the charm. I had the Stoger 2000 and it spent more time at the factory than it did in the field. The other one I had was the Remington 11-87 supermag and that gun kept jamming the bolt open, it spent some time back at the factory also after they replaced some springs.

I shoot a Beretta 3" mag, Al390 and I have had it since 1997 and I have never had any problems with it, Beretta is the way to go, but remember the old saying, look after your gun and it will look after you.
Take care and God Bless

Its all about Building that Bond.

I own them both and can't say a bad word about either of them. I've had the Beretta longer and it has never let me down. They are both easy to clean and operate well. I would say whichever fits you best is the one you should go with, but either way you're going to get a great gun.

I bought the Beretta 390 that Beretta made for Walmart after the 391 was introduced, same gun, with no fancy stuff. $529.00. Best gun purchase I ever made. After handling and shooting it, 2 of my buddies ran out & got them too. We love them. See if Walmart still has them, they are fantastic guns for the price.

I actually have the 390 and yes I love it. I'm looking for a gun that is also shoots 3 1/2" for when I go sea ducking. I am leaning towards the Beretta being as the one I have seems to be real good

OK, that changes things!
The only 3.5" gun I have shot is a Bennelli Nova, which I sold. Nice gun & all, I like my Beretta 390 a whole lot better.

If the gun of choice feels like an extension of your arm/body----buy it.

Hey Joe, I use my Beretta for 100% of the duck hunting I do and 90% of that is for sea ducks. I would say that it will be the best money you can spend. I shoot the factory mod choke and 3-1/2", #3 Kent fast steel and it has been proven time and again to be the "best tool in the shed" or boat as this may go.

I have the first generation Extrema , my son shoots a Extrema 2. Both are failproof ,light target thru heavy 3.5s. They digest everything , easy to break down for cleaning and EX2 can be adjusted for cast and length of pull. Great shotguns!

I highly recommend the Beretta Xtrema 2 with the kickoff stock to absorb recoil. I've had it for two years and feel it's one of the best guns on the market. Very easy to handle, well balanced. Don't think you could go wrong.

Any gun that cycles, fits you, you can afford, and you like. Just remember gas operated auto will have less recoil. SBE, Extrema, x2 , browning are top choices. Mp 153 baikal(spartan) is supposed to be good. Just remember a well placed 3 is just as good as a misplaced 3.5, and it feels better at the end of the day. Recoil can be a shooters demise. If you get them close a 3 inch gun will work just fine. There is a lot of nice 3 inch guns on the market. Most of the time I shoot 3 inch shells out of my 3.5 gun. Hi Joe,

I purchased the SX3 last year and I love it. I use it for ducks and geese and have found it to be very reliable. I have to agree with the other posts that say to choose the gun that feels right for you because when I picked up the Winchester at my dealer I knew it was the right one. I had a Super Black Eagle and love the fit and feel of this gun better, just my opinion. Bryan P.S. I am left handed and was able to switch the safety over very easily with the instructions in the owners manual.

I know you narrowed it down......but I would highly recommend looking (possibly again?) at the Browning Maxus.
I bought the 3 1/2", and love it.

Going with the Beretta with the kick off. It felt real good when I checked it out at Cabelas plus I already have the 390 and I havent had any problems with it. Thanks for the help guys

Joe,

I was in this exact situation almost 4 years ago. For me, gun fit made the decision easy. The SX3 just didn't fit -- not enough drop-at-comb or heel. And, the shims that come with the gun don't adjust drop.

The Xtrema2 fit me like a glove and that's what I went home with. Don't regret it. It's a great gun.

I have friends with SX2 and SX3s. They rave about them.

The long and short of it is these guns might be the cream of the crop for semi-autos. I don't think you can go wrong with either. Just get the one that fits.
