Very nice looking birds B!
Although I heartily ascribe to the Lou Tisch theory of "DRAKES ONLY!" I still love painting hen mallards.
They're drab with a color scheme inherently designed to be invisible in nature so its hard to figure why we would put them in our spreads...
they take forever to paint...easily 3 or 4 times as long as a drake mallard...
But I love the coloration and the depth I can get using washes between base feather painting and subsequent detailing...definitely my favorite bird to paint (vs. the dreaded devil duck from Heck...the OLD Squaw)
