Hit a submerged tree with the TDB

under full power I hit a submerged tree yesterday. Started taking water in immediately.

A few questions
My buddy said there isn't anyway to fix the damage now because of the temperature outside. I don't have a garage or access to one.
Can I put 3m 5200 in the hole as a temporary fix till the weather warms up.
Thank you in advance
Dino

If it were my boat, I wouldn't risk my life on a glop of 5200 - as good as it is. 5200 will also take a long time to cure in these cold temps, like over a week if even then.

Your best bet if you can't repair it properly is to hunt out of your buddies boat.

If you have the skills to do a proper fiberglass repair find a friend with a garage and another with a heater you can borrow. The rest is just an itchy, smelly job. Rich

While I don't know where your from....we are going to have temperatures in the 50 ' s this week.....use polyester resin and increase your catalyst slightly. ...you can use heat lamps on your repair area and a small heater inside the boat

Is that a 14 or 17? Can you get to the damage from the inside? Is that the chine? - I'm having a hard time with the pics... How long is the damaged area?

Thank you all for your advice. the overall damage is 12" but the hole is 3" long. it's the chime on the starboard side.

one thing you can try is to find a temperature controlled storage unit and see if you can make them a deal to use it for a couple days. I did this when i had to thaw my boat out after i left the drain plug in, needless to say the owner of the storage unit wasn't thrilled but the canvasbacks were in town and i wasn't going to sit home!

Where abouts were you running, were you on the river? I dont have any heated space to help you out, good luck with the fix.

If you are able to find heated space go with polyester resin as it will cure faster then epoxy resin and you could use heat gun or some work lights put off a good bit of heat to ensure complete cure after your done glassing. Make sure the damaged area is ground well, dry, and reasonably warm. Good luck.

I'm going to go with the polyester resin and looking ahead to the weekend it's going to
be in the high 40's low 50's. I have several heaters and few tarps lined up. I've already
sanded out the damaged area just waiting for the weekend. I'll take some pictures
when I'm done

Good luck! I hope the repair goes well, allowing you to get on back the water quickly and remain safe for the remainder of the season.

Just a thought here. If you were taking on water in a hurry you may want to wait until the entire boat has a chance to completely dry out. My thought is that if there is moisture in the hull it could become a problem when it freezes hard and expands. Better safe than sorry.

Dang Dean, glad that you didn't get hurt or anything. That boat seems to have it in for you. Good luck with the repair.

I haven't even made it out yet. My boat is one problem after another and I am lacking a tow vehicle at the moment. Planning on some smoke pole deer hunting at this point.

This boat has given me a run for my money for sure. It's a great platform for a lot of the marshes we hunt.
I hope you get a tow vehicle soon. Good luck with the deer
