The family kept me busy so I missed the best part of the tide on Sunday, but I got enough to make a meal. Had a few "Steamers" mixed in with the "Hard" clams I was raking.
Shucked the steamers for frying.

They get a batter of flour and corn meal.

Then Hot Oil.

No small wonder I forgot to call the kids when these hit the plate. Just a few for mom and dad this time. Most days a limit of these will feed a family quite nicely. The small hard clams are best just like this....

The Purple Wampum was very good this year. Going to have to smoke signal up ManyWounds Parks and see if we can trade for some turkey hunting......The big hard shell ones are going to go in a chowder. Can't wait till you guys come out to help with the digging in the nice scenery.

and now I'm hungry again! I can remember going to the Howard Johnson resturant for fried clams "all you can eat", boy did I make a pig of myself everytime. I'll bet those home cooked ones are even better.

Posting pics like that shouldn't even be allowed.

Bob those clams looked good. I had some native oysters from one of the small creeks in Ipswich tonight for a little appetizer. I don;t have any pics of them but they tasted great. HHG

.........just before dinner time! You're bad Bob! Now as for a trade, I'm not sure.....but if you will choose one of the following birds, I can have your name put on it so you'll know which one to shoot. :^)

These 3 Tom's are all dragging the ground with their beards.

Or you could choose one like this, but you have to take feargers and all mind you. Submit your reservations early as tags are going fast. :^)

I am putting the kids to work right now, making the wampum shells into beads for our trade.
Dave those birds are somethin else.
How do you think they would go with Nutria.

Bob, looks like a great feed! I love the fried steamers.

I just pulled this pic off the digital.

Wow Bob.. What a nice feast... After the Saltwater Fishing show on Saturday you out did yourself on Sunday. Those quahogs look mighty tasty. Now we need Alex to get us out cod fishing. I need to fill my freezer.

Dave

Tod, that looks awesome. My fav. place to eat in Stonington does a fish and shellfish recipe that will put down most big eaters. That looks like it might top it.
Dave, great to see you guys and get to have lunch. That show was great. I agree about the Cod. Nothing better for eating. I am thinking about an early May walk on on the Hellen H out of Hyannis for some slammer fish off the banks.

Bob, I believe the Helen H switches over to scup in May.. I could be wrong. Maybe a trip on Walshes out of Lynn or one of the head boats out of Plymouth. There is always the Mean Doreen with Alex and a run to Coxes Ledge.

A buddy of mine up in PA has fished on the Yellowbird http://www.yellowbirdfishing.com/icms/Default.asp?Page=15
quite a bit, I fished it once. They've had some great trips, didn't do so good the one time I went, but then that is fishing. Nice boat, great crew.
I thought about fishing on the Frances Fleet (http://www.francesfleet.com/deepsea.htm) one time when I was up in CT visiting a buddy but didn't have a chance. From the reports I've seen, they are a good crew, especially for scup & fluke.

Because of the closure on the grounds this winter all the operators are likely to fish a little later this season. I hope this trip comes off. I love deep drop fishing and to get cod for the pan is the tops.
Carl, a friend of mine has been running the Gail Francis on and off for quite some time. His family has been in fishing around here for ever. Very nice guy.
Dave, if I am going to take a day I am going for my best shot. The banks have been out fishing Coxes for the last few years and leaving from the Cape or Glouster really cuts the steaming time on the trip. My car only goes 65, but that beats the heck out of the 20 knot cruise on the boats.

I hear you there Bob... I've seen a few reports of some good trips on six packs.. The head boats have been doing very well with the haddock but cod have only been so so. Lots of throw backs. Although I'll surely take a tote full of haddock any day. That and a couple of wolf fish to round it out.
