Hunting with the boys (many pics)

Was doing some pic organizing tonight and thought I'd post these. Some are repeats some are new.

This season was dissappointing by a number of days hunted standard. But in all other categories it was one of the best in years. Maybe by virtue of having some great hunts with good friends and my boys tagging along for about half the hunts makes it one of the best ever.

Andrew is holding the shell he fired at a flock of SEVEN CANS. It was his first shot at a duck. If he had managed to bag a BULL CAN for his first duck it would have gone down the the annals of Patterson Duckhunting as one of the greatest feats.

I don't know if in the history of seven year olds if there has ever been a kid more into duckhunting than Thomas. You have to be around him to appreciate the truth in my statement. He is a riot to hunt with and lives for ducks.

Goodnight!

Great photo's Eric. Makes ya wonder where they get all that interest in duck hunting.........would being around their dad have anything to do with it? Haha.

I think you'll have a couple of life long partners to share your interest in duck hunting and duck boat building. Do you realize all the fun you are going to have with them when THEY decide they want to build themselves duckboats? You will have to get a bigger garage or a shop for sure. Thanks for sharing the pic's with us.

Eric:
Great pictures of your boys--thanks for posting them. Having been born and raised in LaCrosse I love to see those waders on everyone. By providing the proper gear and clothing for youngsters (it's expensive I know) you set the stage for loving a sport. I've seen a few parents disappointed in their childs lack of hunting interest (not only duck hunting) by not providing proper equipment. You certaintly have done that and the rewards will be never ending.

Great pics Eric. I can't wait unitl my son is old enough to take out.

How old were your boys when you took them out for the first time?

Thanks for sharing.
Ryan

Great Pics Eric! That is a life time of memories and a bond with you and your sons that will never be broken. Brings back memories of when my son was little and I would take him hunting. Thanks for sharing and bringing back fond memories.

Eric,

Great pics. Looks like you guys had an enjoyable season this year and a fair number of birds. Our season hear was slow on birds, but went by way too fast. Sounds like Thomas and Alex are a lot alike- Alex would rather duck hunt than do anything else.

Take care,

Bill

Nice photo's Eric !! I was glad to be able to share some of those days with you and your boys. I'll never forget Thomas calling those gadwalls in the swamp with his mouth only.....

I'm a trained professional.

i.e. I have two shavers at home.. great, great pics Eric.

HOLD IT! Who's boat are you using in the first pic? It has a PAINTED motor on it! Great pics Eric, I wish I duck hunted when my son was little..he'd probably hunt now. I feel blessed to have a "second chance" with Blake..he reminds me of me and now I know what my dad put up with. get those kids a new pellet gun..that electrical tape looks like hell!

Cool pics, Eric! I cant wait for it to be my turn. Those have to be some VERY special memories....

Eric,

Great pics, I'd be pleased to have either one of your boys as a boat partner. I know they are learning gun safety, right along with the hunting skills you are passing on.

Thanks fellas. The older they get the more enjoyable it is having them along. Lucky for me my hunting partners, like Jeff Bowen, Joey Wolk, and Tom Ryan pich in and help manage the extra equipment like the kayak.

Dave - Thomas gets it from somewhere. Andrew needs a little coaxing at times.

Boz - The better the equip the more they stay comfortable and that menas we can stay longer. Just makes sense. LaCrosse does have a great kids selection too.

Ryan - I think Thomas was 5 and Andrew was 7. They can go when they are young. You just have to plan on making it a simple as easy hunt. No trudging through knee deep muck.

Lee - It got painted several years back. That white was blindinging on the marsh. I love it now, don't even have to fool with a cover.

Jason - Michelle said you called a while back. Sorry I missed your call. We would have loved to have joined you guys. We'll try to hook up sometime before next season for sure.

Dave McCann - Safety get stressed, no doubt. As for hunting skills I think they are already passing me up. I putting the on a whole new playing field when it comes to junk food!

Eric -

Great pics! My son started going out with me this season. Makes for great company and good memories. He's still talking about the goose that I nearly shot a day out of season. Anticipating the response, no I never fired but called it in and was trying to get the shot when it flew behind a huge willow. Didn't realize till we got home that Goose closed the day before. He's still laughing at me and that's not a bad thing. Anyway, makes for great stories...
