Ideas for Salt Lake in March

I am heading to the Salt Lake area in Mid March. We will be skiing, but I wanted to know if there is any hunting of fishing opportunities while I am out there. I would love to take a morning or afternoon off for some sport. Any ideas?

We have a March snow goose season, but it's pretty much touch and go as to whether there will be any birds around on accessible ground. Sometimes the geese are around during the season and sometimes they blow right through, depending on weather. Most of the good snow goose hunting is not in the SLC area. That's pretty much the only hunting available in March unless you like shooting jackrabbits or coyotes. Skiing and snowboarding will be in full force, we usually get more snow in March than any other month, this has been a very unusually dry snow year but things are picking up. Most of the SLC area resorts got between 18 and 24 inches in this last storm! If you go to Ogden to visit the Browning museum, I suggest making it a day trip and skiing at Powder Mountain east of Ogden, the snow and terrain is every bit as good as the SLC area resorts but much less crowded and a much mellower atmosphere. I'm a snowboarder myself and usually ride the backcountry but if I was headed to Utah it's where I'd go.

Fishing can be great in March, the Provo river is closest to SLC and is a world renowned tailwater, if you are willing to travel a bit the Green River below Flaming Gorge is about as good as fly fishing gets and is about a 3 hour trip from Salt Lake. SLC is also in day trip range of several good to great rivers. Do you do any ice fishing?
I live about 2 hours north of SLC, almost in Idaho but if you have any other questions send me a PM.
