I'm Back!

Hello all!

I am back! It has been a while, since I have been around these waters... but I still see some familiar names, and look forward to seeing all of the hand made goodness!

I guess they say Life happens, which drew me away from here and carving blocks. I have lurked a few times around here, but have been pretty busy, and other things have taken precedent. I have been tempted to post a few times but realized that I needed to set up a whole account and all, and just kept lurking.

I picked up a few of my blocks as I was cleaning the shop, and thought I needed some inspiration, so here I am!

I have a couple o' black corkers in the works, and a few wood/wire frame canvas birds in the works...

I left 2 of my finished Canada's (made with canvas over wood & wire frames with bass wood heads) with another carver at a show. They won some honorable mention ribbons or something at a small waterfowl festival in Linesville Pa, and had to stay there to be on display. I couldn't make the trip back up the next day and the guy offered to bring them back to Pittsburgh for me. He was good friends with the guy who organized the deke competition, but I have lost touch with both of them, which meant I lost touch with my first 2 canvas over frame dekes that I completed! I had them up at the Westlake show in Cleveland 2-3 years back, and they got thrown out of the gunning bird section because I had dimples for the nostrils on the bills. I got a bunch of good advice, and a ton of people were commenting on them. George Williams gave me some good advice, and if I remember correctly made a little stink to the judge on my behalf about the nostril dents not being "too much bill detail". I think he was as upset as I... I was just happy that they were as well received by the public as they were!

I will see what I can do about posting up some pics! I will dig through to see what pics I have!

thanks for the welcome back!

Eric,

Thank you for the warm welcoming! I do not have pics of the finished birds, but will post the pics of the ones I have in the works!

Thanks again,

Dave
