Hello all. My name is Jay. I live in NJ. Craig F referred me to the site. Just a little background on me: I've been involved in offshore fishing for the better part of 15 years and have been a licensed captain for about 10. Last year I was brought into waterfowling by my cousin and uncle. Did a few beaver swamp trips and then finally did my first coastal hunt last season on their duck boat. I was hooked. This season I decided to put together my own rig. Started with a 14' aluminum Jon, built a conduit blind with plastic chicken wire and raffia, and topped it off with a 15hp motor. Works for now. I'm looking to upgrade next season and maybe add a DIY sneak/hybrid type boat to my arsenal.
I'm hunting mostly big water. My family owns a home on Great Bay NJ. I currently launch from my dock. Still working on a trailer setup. I managed two hunts this season. First hunt I was able to down two bufflehead. Second I limited out.
Second was really an awesome hunt. Calm winds, slick glass water, divers pitching in all over. Even had a seal come through the spread. Can't wait to expand next season.
My modest spread. 18 buffies, 8 brant (not shown), 4-5 mallards towards the mouth of the creek (also not shown)
My modest boat. Working on grassing the top rails a little better for next season.
My first limit, just my second hunt on my own.
