Its become a problem

New York's law on the sale of ammunition that went into effect on Jan 14 is a problem. I've had a wholesale account with Jerry's Sport Center for over 30 years. Always bought my ammunition by the case. Today I called up to place an order. It couldn't be shipped to New York if I didn't have an FFl. I asked that since I was going to the Harrisburg Show this week if I could pick it up at their Harrisburg Warehouse and was told that without an FFl I couldn't pick it up either. When I stop at Cabelas on the way back am I going to be restricted to two boxes. I hope not.

When you buy ammo in person out of state where they don't have a law such as yours, do they even ask for ID? If not, there should be no problem.

Sad thing is you can't use Rogers Sporting Goods or the like to order your ammo. As an example, Roger's has a case of 12ga, 3" Heavy-Metal for $225 shipped to your door. When I stopped at Cabela's last week, I had a gift certificate so I thought I might just pick up some ammo while I was there in person. Cabela's wanted $265 for the same case. On top of that, I would have had to pay tax. I decided not to spend the $40+ extra on the ammo, so I never found out if it they would ask for ID.

Don't think they can deny you a ammo license because of the date. Was told you had to have a tax # or were denied. Cuomo wants the sales tax...
No info as to what info is needed to buy ammo, fees ?, book?, reporting?, if I have a pistol permit ?, law enforcement? What happens if you want 38's for your lever action, 44's ???
Typical NYS government. Look at the DEC licenses???

Rich,

When I was speaking with NYS Police in Albany they told me to make sure it's post marked by 1/15/14 and they do state it on the info page.
Taken from the NYS web site: Any individual engaged in the commercial sale of ammunition, whether sporadically or full-time, will be required to mail a registration form to the New York State Police post marked by January 15, 2014.

It's still worth sending it in and fighting them on the date issue.
Only in NY would they say you need to have a permit then delay the process then post the info 5 days before the cut off.
I tend to think this was Emperor Cuomo's plan all along.
FUAC...

I was going to add a few more comments but I remembered that this is a nice clean family forum.
So I'll just say God help us if he even makes it to the ballot.

If you are buying in another state in person, they only enforce the state law they are subject too. Which is what ever state you happen to be in.
SO, say you drop by a store in Alabama: you can buy as much ammo as you want to carry to the car.
Now, if bringing that back into your state is illegal, that is for you to deal with.
If you place an order over the internet or the phone from your home state and have to give your home of residence address for what ever reason, that is different: you are originating the purchase from that state and the transaction is subject to your home-state laws.

IMO, whether someone can buy two boxes or two case of ammo at a time will do absolutely nothing to stop a psycho who has most likely already broken a pile of laws. And the street gangs are going to either steal or send someone on a road trip to get their ammo. So all this bullshit is just punishing the common man who is not going to break any law.

Just got back from Harrisburg. I thought the show was great. . Lots of gun Mfgs. Spoke to the reps at Remington . They have added a Left Hand Versa Max. Looks like I'm going to go modern. Stopped at Cabelas on the way home. No problem buying Ammo over the counter retail. Saw two huge flocks of Snow geese on the way home while driving on 78. Why don't they come to Long Island?

say it ain't so Jack......I think you and I are the only ones still shooting Rem 1100 Mags

I sill shoot my old 1100 Mag from time to time. What good are the ammo laws if one can just drive to the next state to purchase ammo?
It makes me sick that the democrats took a tragic event and turned it into a money grab and did nothing for the real issue of mental health.
They have no moral compass, they just need your hard earned dollars to fund the big government.

Hey Jack, thinking about doing a booth again??? Heard it was a good show. I seem to remember you liked the turkey calls. I shoot a first year 1187, no plastic or camo. Still alot of guides using 1100's, they keep on working. Need parts, I have them...

My LH 1100 works fine, I actually have two. there is nothing wrong at all with them. in fact a LH 30" full 3" mag is worth a few bucks. I've been toying with the idea of anew gun for years.. I'm not impressed with the Benneli Super Black Eagle. Its the most popular gun my customers bring out .They make a great Jam-O-Matic.. It might just be time for a new gun for me. It'll be one more to pass on
