I've gone modern

Well after shooting my left handed Remington model 1100 for at least 40 years. I finally got a new left handed Remington Versa Max. I was promised this gun by the Remington reps at the Harrisburg Show two years ago. But Remington never went into production until September of this year. I had ordered one two years ago from an FFL dealer here on the island and forgot all about it . I never thought I would ever see one. Got the call while we were out fishing and picked it up three days later. Now all I need is a Goose to point it at.

Good luck with the new gun.
I am impressed 40 years, was that 40 trouble free years?
I had an 1100 back in the 80's. I could not get it to, not jam in cold weather. It went to a local gunsmith twice and back to Remington three times. I paid more for repairs then the price of the gun.

That's a really cool story. And, since you forgot all about it, it's kinda like an impromptu surprise birthday gift!

I had the opportunity to shoot a standard, right handed model a few years ago, and actually killed the ducks I was aiming at. It belonged to a guide we were hunting with in Canada. I really liked the way it felt, looked, handled and shot, but I like my 11-87 so much, there is absolutely no logical reason to replace it. But if I were to, that's what I would go to.

Good luck with it.

My dad and grandfather shot skeet semi pro and used 1100's for years. They put tens of thousands of rounds through them shooting a case of shells a week.
I have a 20 and 12 gauge from my grandfather. I have no idea what year they were made but they have to be at least 50 years old. They don't get much use anymore. They are literally wearing out. The steel at friction points is wearing thin and the barrels are getting thin too.

In all the year I shot the 1100. I had few issues . I used to gun every day. I killed and still do a lot of geese. 30" full fixed choke was it for me. I don't know what it'll be like to shoot modified or improved cylinder. maybe I'll be a good shot again. I actually have two LH 30" full 1100's the second one came off of this site thanks to Phil Eager. I had that one reblued by Gary Donavan in Verona NY. It looks like brand new and shot it off and on for the last several years. I'm not going to leave my 1100's in the cabinet the pit they will still be killing geese for as many years as I have left
