Anybody run a hydraulic jackplate on their boat in this cold weather and have trouble with it not working correctly..I went to use my boat today and the jackplate wouldn't budge...The motor engaged but the plate wouldn't move...Battery is charged and fine...Thanks....

I have a CMC hi speed plate on my boat, it works slower in cold weather but lifts and lowers my 115 Suzuki with no problem.

I have a Bob's Machine jack plate and I never had a problem although it seems to be slower in very cold weather but always works.

You'd probably see an advantage to running a cold weather hydraulic fluid in it. Most all hydraulic systems get sluggish and slow when sitting cold in cold weather. The biggest disadvantage to cold weather fluid in hot weather is loss of power, but that would be opperating constantly to build up system temperature on top of ambient temperature. Unless you are running your jackplate up and down all day long, I doubt it would build up that kind of temperature to effect you.

Jr...Mines a Bob's Machine also...Never had trouble before this...

Chuck,
I may drain the system and reload with a different hydraulic fluid..I'm afraid I may have moisture in the system now...Waiting on Bob's Machine to email or send me a manual...Marina never gave me one when I purchased it...

yes had problems with a CMC before but it is usually due to the ice build up knocked the ice off and it worked just alittle slower

If you can find the kind of hydraulic fluid that they use in snow plows that should solve the problem. Moisture is another common problem in hydraulics.

At work we run a lot of pallet trucks with hydraulics for the lift only. The cooler where they operate is between 32 and 39 degrees year around. A couple years ago we switched from AW322 hyd oil to synthetic ATF and have had great results. (the operators say the lifts are faster now) I'm thinking of building a jack plate and will be using the ATF for fluid on mine.
It worked for us, John

Well I finally got around to dealing with this problem and found moisture in the system...Took everything apart, drained, cleaned, flushed, replaced seals and cap on reservoir..reloaded with dexron 111 atf recommend by a local hydraulic shop and works like new...Thanks for the input gentlemen..
