I've been "looking" for a 17'-18' boat for a while now. Need something a little bigger to get all our gear to our cabin on Rainy Lake in Canada that is only accesible by boat. Its an 18' Lund with an 85 Johnson. The color is a funny story. I called about it almost 2 weeks ago but had to go to a conference at the end of week so I didn't get back to the guy until last monday. Over the previous weekend he started sanding it and cleaning it to paint. I asked him if he hadn't started painting if he could paint it olive green or dark grey so I could use it for a hunting/tender boat on Lake Michigan. Well I showed up to pick it up Sunday and started laughing when I saw it. He apologized and said they asked the paint guy at the hardware store to mix up a batch of olive green. He said when they started painting they were in the garage and the lighting was off so they didn't realize what color it was until it got out in the sun. The guy mixed them up oliveR green. Which apparently is John Deere green. Its a great paint job but he wasn't a hunter so he just didn't get "it" when I was laughing. I also don't know if I forgot to mention flat color too. My girlfriend asked if she could put Nija Turtle logos on it.
Otherwise I got a decent deal on the boat. It had the things I was looking for- livewell, depth finder(2), bilge pump, open floor plan, larger then a 50hp and some bonuses- gps, marine radio. I'm going to add a couple more removeable pedestal seats and a "new" trolling motor but thats about it, well besides the paint. I might get some big John Deere logos and let it be for a while. Got to have a little bit of a sense of humor with it.
Question- How should I go about painting it? The paint is fresh (3 days). Do I need to sand it all down? Can I just go over with a spairer or roller?
