If you haven't joined the NRA now is the time. If you have issues with them I understand. I have not been satisfied with them myself. However, considering the current situation. We must utilize every avenue available to fight this battle that is hand. The NRA already has an established infrastructure. They are our best hope for an organized effort in Washington and the states. Give them some money to fight the fight and add numbers to their ranks. The more members they have the more weight they carry into the game.

I apologize for polluting our beloved sanctuary with politics. One of my favorite things about this forum is its pleasant positive atmosphere. However, I feel it is my duty, and the duty of all patriotic citizens, to use whatever means is at our disposal to stop this assault on our rights. I'm sorry if I've offended anyone. I will not make a habit of this.

Back to the ducks.

I completely agree... The NRA may not be perfect, but it is a better alternative to what Obama, Feinstein and Cuomo here in NY are proposing.

If you have not read Feinstein's new assault weapons ban because you are just a duck hunter and dont have an AR-15, THINK AGAIN! She wants all of you to go through background checks, all weapons (shotguns too!) registered in a federal database to include fingerprints and serial numbers. There's more and you should read it so you know how YOUR RIGHTS ARE BEING THREATEND. By the way, all of this from a woman who admits to owning a concealed carry permit to protect herself, what a hypocrite! The web address to to her legislation is listed below:

John,

No need to apologize. As I see it this is an issue near and dear to every member or visitor to this site. I for one do not believe in the fear mongering attitude and pressure tactics the NRA uses to promote membership. That had led me to let my membership expire. My dad told me he wouldn't see this it in his life time but was afraid I'd see it in mine. He was right and I'm seeing that happening today. A law abiding, hard working man would hope that the bigger issues facing America would have our elected politicians trying to solve the issues such as the countries deficit, healthcare, high unemployment and high taxation among a host of others rather than trying to tear apart the constitution that this country was built on. I know many are trying to ratioinalize that the 5th amendment with protect them from confiscation but that won't hold water if federal law can show that your a criminal. They'll have the power to enter your home and take you and all that you own. I'd love to have an attorney tell me I'm wrong and explain why.

Thank you for the link. I will be reinstating my membership with the NRA as well as joining the Illinois Rifle Association helping those helping us closer to home.

Life member and NYSRPA also. All these politicans, both parties, have the better than thou attitude. Most have pistol permits but won't admit it. Need the donations to get reelected. Bet you Rosie and Ophra have armed security. I like the call a cop sense. After the problem is over, they will take the report. I have many law enforcement friends and they agree.
Check the papers, these people had mental health issues. At one time we had mental institutions to help these people. Politicians closed them because of expense. Like social security, rob peter to pay paul. Very few of our government have served our country, really.

I hope you all join the NRA. So much for the smoke screens told of in the previous posts before the election. They want all guns. The NRA is not blowing smoke. John

Life Member since 1970, yep....go'in on 43 years. The NRA may not be perfect but they are the most effective orgainization looking out for our 2nd Amendment rights.

Last week I renewed for three years and made a direct ILA contribution. Making it a point to reach out to as many of my gun club and hunt club members as possible, encouraging them to do the same.

i'm not always pleased with the positions the NRA takes, but they are the only voice gun owners have.

Everybody needs to make sure they call their senators and representatives to let them know how they feel about these gun issues. This is a serious issue.

I agree. Not only should you support the NRA and or Gun Owners of America you should be urging all your gun club members and shooting clubs to write in a massive letter, email, and phone call campaign. They should be writing to their Congressmen, Senators, House Speaker John Boehner ( because he decides what bills come to the House floor), John Mc Cain as he is looking to cut a Deal with the Dems on the filibuster...read below link. and Govenors to stop any useless bills that will do nothing to curtail criminals. Let's face it criminals don't abide by the laws that is why they are criminals. Any new gun legislation will only be a burden and limit the Constitutional rights of law abiding citizens. Be aware that not only are new gun bills on the table, but also the UN small arms treaty and changes in how our government operates.

Read the below links. The Forbes article is very insightful as to the Second Amendment and what it really means. The GOA link discusses the Change in Senate voting.

Can you imagine the bureaucracy needed to keep track of all the gun trading and selling! That's all our government needs. The shooting incident in Conn is an absolute tradgedy obviously but you know there were plenty of warning signs that this guy was a time bomb waiting to go off. Why isn't our government trying to work on getting these kind of people help or put away before it's too late? The down fall of many past democracies has been passivism. Sure the majority rules but unforetunately the squeeky minority are the ones who get the oil.

This isn't about making anyone safer, (except our illegitimate rulers), it is about disarming the populace. I think it has been in the works for awhile. It is no coincidence that they waited tell after the election to follow through with the plan. I also believe the republicans are going to sell us out on this one. I think the deal was already made before Sandy Hook even happened. The senate has until the end of this month to decide rather to change its rules or not. This is a special provision that is supposed to only apply to the first day of a new session. The senate could pass new legislation with only 50 votes if they decide to change the rules. It was extended until the 28th. I fully expect the house to allow legislation to get through.

The way the news media is portraying, "sensible gun regulation", and hitting the panic button at every possible opportunity signals that the fix is in.

Gun rights coalition proclaims Jan. 19 as ‘Gun Appreciation Day’
Support those that support us!

When you are contacting your reps and senators also tell them to pass a BUDGET! If they would focus on their job and more important things like the the federal budget, they would not have time to waste on gun control. I would say this gun control talk is being used by some as a distraction from from the budget issue.
