Just not safe to go today:

32kts+ winds and thunderstorms means I'm at the house today. We've had a real weather roller coaster on the Gulf Coast for the last two weeks, makes it really hard to hunt when you go from 20 mph south winds, high water, 70 degrees and fog to 30 kts north winds every other day.

Just to give you weather perspective... We had wind Thursday night to Friday morning (gusts to 50) , Friday morning was cold (9 on the truck at 5 am), started in the 20s and snowed 6 inches yesterday, started raining today and poured all day (snow is mostly gone) and now it is 54.

Supposed to be 15 tonight.

Several mornings this past season wound up back on the pillow due to weather. Never would have second guessed it in my younger days.

Sounds like the same roller coaster we are on, just a hell of a lot colder.

That's a tad chillier than here but not much. How was the fishing?

I remember maybe 40 years ago when they opened stream trout season on Jan 1st. I think the following weekend I was determined to go fishing despite the temps of -20 and WC way south of that like -40 or something. I stopped and got a half bucket of minnows - no flies today it was "Catch Something!"

I would take off my wool lined chopper mitts grab a minnow and impale it on the hook - swing it out over the creek and it would freeze before it hit the water. LOL Only took at hour or so to realized the fun was over and I headed back with no trout. Did get a couple of chubs though. Sometimes you just have to go. Glad I can tell the story cause I would never do it now-a-days.

I hunted Friday morning I had frozen boogers in my beard and my waders had built up so much ice I couldn't bend my knees.

I told my buddy, "you know you can hunt ducks in Florida right?"

-26 this morning when I went outside. Deuce is most definitely a house dog. He was three legged by the time he got his morning poop out. He never once looked like he wanted to go pheasant hunting today. Had he I sure would have went...sure I would have.

We are above freezing now. In a couple days the forecast is for mid 30s...above zero.

71 here at midnight. The front passed and the temps plummeted, below freezing by sunrise and in the upper 20's the rest of the day here. And I'm booked up solid the rest of the week.

Hunted last year at-11 and wind chill quite a bit south of that. Used the Hoefgen with the weed eater mud motor. Hunt was fine but when it came time to go back, wader were froze where I couldn't bend my knees to get in and then once the motor started it didn't have enough power to get the prop spinning - it had frozen. Put both my knees and mud motor prop into the water to let them all to melt. Eventually everything was OK and headed back upstream. Don't think I will hunt in cold like that again. Too many things could go wrong and end up in a bad spot.

This morning was no better, still blowing 20-30kts and cold drizzle off & on.

Tomorrows forecast is perfect, cold and light north winds.
Just have to talk my boss into letting me skip a meeting.

Carl,
It's been below freezing up here for over a week now. Even the MO River has a lot of ice flowing down it now. We got a couple inches of snow over the weekend, so they should be headed your way! Enjoy the rest of your season, hopefully it will be fantastic!!!
