Labs

Does anyone have a good breeder they can recommend. My hunting partner Sam (yellow lab) was killed the last week of hunting season. She will be missed for a long time and a new dog has some huge shoes to fill. But I need to fill the void that is in our house as soon as possible.

I wished that I could help you but I can't. Most of all, Charles, I want you to know how sorry I am for your loss. What a tragedy. Hopefully when you find that new pup, the healing process will take place.

Charles,
I am sorry about the loss of your dog. Are you looking for another yellow, or possibly a chocolate or black? How far are you looking to travel? What type of lines are you looking for?
If you visit these websites you can do a breeder search by state. Its a decent place to start, as most breeders who list with the clubs seem fairly reputable.

I spent a few months last year looking for a breeder myself on the east coast, and here are a few that I bookmarked. I have no affiliation with any of these breeders, they are just some that I were considering:

I hope this helps. Its a big world out there when searching for a puppy, but its a fun process. One of the best ways to ease the pain of losing your dog, is to get another.
Let me know if I can do anything else to help,
Neil

Sorry for your loss. I got my lab through a recommendation from my friend upstate. He had already gotten his dog and he checked out one for me. True to his word I could'nt be happier with my girl. Snow Goose Kennels 15 min north of Syracuse. Contact me for any other info that can help, Kevin

Thank you all. I always thought there just DOGS! Boy was I wrong. So wrong. Thanks for all the info about the breeders. I am making phone calls now and hopefully I will find a good one.

I'm very sorry for your loss. I frequent another forum that is dedicated to retriever training and they have a a classified section with some good breeders listed with links to their litters. There is a Lab, Golden and Chessie section as well as others. I know you want a Lad, and I'm sure there are some nice litters posted in that section, but my very nice Golden Gus was just bred and that litter is listed in the Golden section if your interested.

Check out retrievertraining.net, there is the Lab section of the classifieds and if your open to a Golden, my dogs name is Topbrass Montana Lonesome Dove.

Hey Charlie. I am very sorry for your loss. I couldn't imagine your sadness. I spent alot of time researching breeders for my dog. We traveled to about 10 breeders before deciding. The nice thing about seeing multiple breeders and bloodlines is you can begin to formulate what traits you are looking for in a dog. I knew that I wanted an English Lab. They tend to be a little shorter and stockier than the American lab with a blockier head. I also knew going into it that I wanted a small dog that would take up less room in a sneakbox. So, I began looking at breeders that specialize in English labs and told them the characteristics I wanted in a dog. I also researched the breeders on-line. Ultimately I chose a breeder in VA Deeprun Retrievers. When we went to visit we were very impressed with their operation. They are field trialers/ Veterinarians / and hunters. They also had a great looking set of parents that were scheduled to be breed. I would do a little on-line research, especially English vs. American. They are both great dogs but, tend to serve different people's needs better. At then end of the day just like anything else the dog is born with certain traits and natural desire but, it is up to the owner to nurture that ability and mold the dog into something special. Here is my dog during her first hunting season she was 10 months old. Good luck and enjoy!!!

I bought my chocolate female from this guy last summer and he has 2 litters on the ground from the same MH sire, Hawk, but different females. Our pup has a LOT of energy. Hoping she does well once training season gets under way next month. He also has a litter of yellows. Looks like he had a busy 3 days at the beginning of the month.

Thank you all for all of your help and suggestions. I have a couple of good leads and am on my way to getting a new hunting partner.
Thanks again
