I'm trying to design a 12 ft flat with a 6.5 Go devil layout blind.
I'd like to make a single man Gator hide type blind with flip open
door and a very low type deck blind.
Light weight as possible for pushing in shallows.

Any suggestions or pics would be aprreciated

Nice boat but I just don't have the skills or time to do something
like that. I'm think more of a 12 or 14ft flat riveted.

I dont follow you, do you want to build a boat or just put a blind on a flat bottom aluminum boat?
If it is the latter, that is easy, buy a 1448 flat bottom, stick a mud motor on it & then stick some fastgrass. Your are done.

I'm trying to design a blind for the flat boat, that allows you to sit on the floor
with a flip open door covered with natural grass.
I'd like it generally water proof because we leave our boats on the Mississippi
and I don't like bailing early in the morning.
I thinking framing with 1 by 2s and covering with flooring underlayment but
I'm not to sure about strength (ie dog walking on it) or weight.
Run some rubber straps across the cover to hold the vegetation on.
I'd cut the 1x2s with a slight hump in the middle to help shed the rain.

Question. Does anybody make a 12ft flat with no center seat?

Momarsh | Home Conan look at this site. I think this is what you are looking for. The fellows who have these boats have put small mud motors on them.

If you have a boat already and wish to put a blind on it that another matter.

Thats plan B.
I have a Momarsh fat boy but its alittle small with the 6.5 godevil, decoys
and a dog. Also when laying flat, its tight on my shoulders coming up to shoot.
I really like the boat but just alittle small width wise.

Plan B might be to try a momarsh dp .

Just exploring options now.

Besides I think momarsh dp's are back ordered for a few weeks.

Someone on here last year or the year before decked a boat in this manner and posted photos. OR it was over on the Refuge. Can't quite recall, but it was just as you write - 1x2 frame covered in plywood and painted. He made it so that he can take it off in the summer for fishing.

I have never seen a cheap rivited flat john boat without a center bench. Custom welded johns w/o benches yes, but not as short as 12ft. In a rivited boat you can cut the benches out and plug the holes, but make sure to put some foam back in the boat some where if the bench has foam in it.

To keep the water out build a hatch cover for when the boat is stored. You can leave that on the beach when using the boat.

Another option is to build a boat from scratch. There are many options from the Devlin Bluebill and Broadbill to the dirt cheap Hybrid.

and Eric asks him to "follow the rules".....FOR THE SECOND TIME....

Conan ignores Eric's request, (FOR THE SECOND TIME), and continues to post without regard for the rules...

Meanwhile regular members, who do follow the rules, seem to have Conan's back rather than Eric's....

NICE......and thanks for the support to all who posted to someone who "knows" he's not in compliance...

Steve

am i missing something?? is not this is name? Conan? whats the problem- i am sorry if i sound stupid? but in his profile - thats his first name.

John

asked him to "follow the rules" and that since he didn't bother to respond to that with "hey thats my real name" that its not.....if it is the answer seems simple....if it isn't then the answer seems simple.....

At least to me...

Steve

I got you.
Someone on this sight did a 12' boat into something similar to the one in Zack Taylor's book, where you put a deck on top.
He cut out the center bench & used the top deck as bracing to keep the sides from flexing.
You could add a cockpit cover and it would be relavtively watertight.

I guess Mr Sutton should blame my parents for my first name.
Do you need my last name too , to post?
You can check it out on the profile page.

Steve

He was going by "ctbarbarian". I looked at his info and saw that was a play on his real name Conan. Neither of us should probably have him do dental work on us. Might be extra painful.

Eric

Extra pain means extra costs to the patient.
What other job gets paid alot to hurt people.
God I love it.

I've got BSBC so that isn't the issue. Pain, now that's an issue.

You know, if you had singed up with the name Phil McCavity, we wouldn't have had this conversation and you wouldn't be the target of dentist jokes that are about to ensue.
