Lefty shotguns

Kevin

Beware!!! I too am right handed and left eye dominant. I bought my first 870 Wingmaster at 14 years old which is 36 years ago. Two seasons ago I bought myself a left handed 11-87. I love the gun but after 36 years of shooting the right handed gun I put the safety on as I shoulder the left handed gun almost every time. So beware as you buy him a new gun that the old safety habit is hard to change. Butler creek used to and may again sometime in the future sell a kit that changes the safety on the gun but as of now it is not available and it would be a fairly expensive fix. Just a word to the wise.

Kevin,

Another lefty weighing in. My first gun was an 870 wingmaster. I can't say I have ever seen a hull fly by my face. The safety was the biggest pain. Getting it switched would be nice. I've adapted and don't even think of it. I am a big fan of top tang safeties. I've shot an American Arms O/U for the past 12 years. I'm thinking of going back to 870 for waterfowl.

I am a lefty and the first shotgun i bought was a mossberg. It was a right hand gun but the top mount safety was nice. Otherwise i just dealt with it untill 3 years ago when i bought "Black Betty" my Benelli SBE she is lefty and just love this gun. But you cant go wrong when you buy the best.

For thoes shooting pumps and autos with a cross bolt safety on a right hand gun, there have been left handed safeties available fo at least 50 years.Try Bronnells or Davidson's,or Midway???

I am not a lefty or left eye dominant, so I have never had to deal with the problem personally. I hunt with 3 different guys who shoot right handed guns lefty. Two are left handed and one is left eye dominant. I have never understood not buying a left handed gun. It is not that hard to get a left handed gun. I have seen these guys buy new guns and never even look at a left handed model. BPS's are not that much $ and lefty Remingtons are out there. If you want an O/U buy a quality gun that holds or goes up in value. When a former girlfriend, who was a lefty, started hunting we bought her a new BPS stalker. It was not that much $ and she shot it well. People spend money to switch safeties. They could have spent the extra $ to get a left handed gun.

$420 for a BPS stalker or $430 for a blued BPS brand new on Able ammo.
