Life Vest

Well it finally happened. Went overboard today... Finished rigging out and was poling to the beach, hit something and hit the water. Had my vest on, but I got wet a little. With the temp and wind I lasted till about 10am. A lesson learned.
Was hunting with my nephew Chris Geminski in Wantagh. Met up with John Livoti, Rufus and Dave from Va. The day started great, nice ramp facilities and a pleasent trip out to the marsh. John had seals in the rig, nice seal decoys. Great marshes to shoot in and buy the shots heard, plenty birds. Saw many flocks 4 - 500 birds. Guess you need a permit to use the ramp, got a warning.
Other wise a good day. Wear your PFD till your ready to shoot, I know... Thanks John...

Glad to hear it worked out for the best and you are safe. Lesson learned here from your experience. In Massachusetts we need ramp permits for most spots even though they used Federal funding to build them; however most towns inforce the permits May through September and leave the off season users alone. Glad that worked out as well.

Keep safe and enjoy the remainder of season in NY. My season on the water looks like it will end tomorrow afternoon in RI during the game-while everybody is watching football I will out on the water.

You need a (treestand saftey vest) not a life vest. LOL
Did you walk to shore or jump back in the boat?
To be honest, I wear my vest because it's the law. But I alway wear my wading belt.
Glad to hear your ok

Bill, fell in about 1 - 2 ft water, sat up and looked if anyone was looking, embarrassed. I never used one years ago, worked for a towing company and bought my own for safety. Almost went over board twice hooking up for a tow. Went out the next day and bought one.
Never used a safety belt hunting either, fell out of the tree. Think I'm learning... Have a safety belt now, PFD and life vest for the boat.

Fell asleep when I was 14 years old, while deer hunting. Sitting in a magnolia tree about 15' up on my folks' property in AL. I hit EVERY branch on the way down. Hurt like hell. The walk home was pretty painful. NEVER climbed a tree without a safety strap since then.

Two years ago, I stumbled getting out of my kayak in about 2 feet of water and filled my waders with water. Luckily, it was an early season hunt and I was able to continue the hunt after wading to shore and dumping out the water from my waders and changing into the clothes I keep in a dray bag stuffed behind my seat for just such an occasion. Before anyone asks, I was wearing my life jacket. Luckily, I didn't need it that time.

Hunt safe! We all have someone to go home to.

Whoops!! Forgot to say that I'm glad you're life jacket was there when you needed it! Glad you made it home to tell the tail!

John told me about your spill Rich. Glad you made it out OK. I didn’t know that you were able to stick it out till 10, nice that you were able to hunt with everyone for a little while.
