Hello,

I remember there were some here that were interested in getting a high quality, field bred Golden Retriever. Well, we bred my Gus (Topbrass Montana Lonesome Dove) to a very nice master hunter bitch a while ago, and she now has seven pups on the ground, four boys, three girls. I am taking a male and the breeder's are keeping a female, the puppies are just over three weeks old. I am not selling the pups, my stud fee is that male puppy, I just wanted to let you know about this quality litter.

Here's a link...

Gus earned 17 derby points to get on the National Derby List, he also won his forst Qualifying FT well before age three and I got a Reserve Judges Award of Merit (basicaly 5th place) in his first All Age trial (a huge step up to the highest level of difficulty, there were only six out of 50 plus that finished that trial, and the other five were much older field champions). That was one week after he turned three.

Here's a pic of Gus and Alex, Gus is the lighter Gold with the blue ribbon...

Gus sitting on the foredeck of my Cackler. He already is showing that he isn't just a field trial dog, he has big paws to fill, but I think he is going to be my best hunting dog ever, he certainly has all the tools, plus that intense drive to get the bird no matter what, ice, cover, big water, he will not give up.

Gus was birdy at a young age. Here he is at 10 weeks coming back with a duck I had shot that morning, and threw out on the lawn to see what Gus would do; he promptly ran out, picked it up and ran right back to me. I knew right then and there that I had a special dog.

It's funny that you mention that. My wife and I are definitely going to visit Ireland (i'm 3/4 Irish), and Scotland (I'm 1/8 Scottish), with the intent of visiting Lord Tweedmouth's area, and look up some of that original Golden Retriever stock. We'd even like to see a British style field trial, they sound much different than our's and very interesting in their own right. Do I understand correctly that the Queen used to run her Labs in FTs over their as just one of the hanlders, or is that myth?

Good luck with Amber and post pics when you can.

John if you come over here and you are intending to watch a feild trial you will need to come over about December because then you will be at the peak of the trialing season, Ambers Mother won a trial last December to make her a fieldstrial winner and Her father is already a champion, Drakeshead Viper.
In the past the Queen use to trial her dogs but I dont think she trials them now, as she,s a old Girl, she his in her 80,s. She does have her own strain its called the Sandringham strain and it was called after her estate and they are all Labs.

Bump:

Pups are now five weeks old. There are two or three boys and one girl left. Two are coming to Montana, so I'll get to help train at least one.

John that sounds great, you have got fun times to come with the training, I car,nt wait to get Amber so she can pick me up and my life can start all over again, and be able to put these bad times behind me.

Gus looks like he's doing great. Congrats! It sure is fun to work with a dog that has a lot of drive.

Good luck training the new pup!

Glad to hear you are getting a pup and I assume continuing running Golden's in FTs. Cassie is 8 now so it won't be long before I'm picking your brain about the new crop of Golden's.
