Yes its going on the wall.
Had 2 great days of hunting in central Iowa to bad I have to go back to work tomorrow.

Congratulations!
I've seen a grand total of 1 black duck down here since 1997, and my partner killed after I missed!

Looks like a really nice mixed bag, I love hunts like that.

Looks like he "crash landed" in your decoys...
Tons of blacks here in the northeast, though we can only shoot one...

Now for the all important question. Since that is the only one you have ever seen, will you be looking at it on a regular basis next year in your home? Will it be a flying mount or standing mount? Nice variety of birds you had there.

Funny, many days here the only ducks we see are blacks, and with a 1 black limit the day can be over in one shot. Congrats, sounds like you had a good hunt.

I guess we're just spoiled here on th east coast.

Yes you are, in more ways than just Black ducks! I only hear of 1-2 of these killed a year around here.

It will be a flying mount, pose I have not decided yet torn between jumping off the water or cupped and comin in. The Taxidermist guy was the second person to hear about it

With a bill that green...isn't it a hen?

This early in the season, I think that would be a normal bill color for black duck or mottled duck drakes.

It's a hybred for sure if you look at the wings.
The bill color will fool ya next to the Mallard Drake.
I'd call it a hybred drake.

If you look close at the dark stripe it is green and there is a lot
of green on the scalp of the head.

Ya I kind of thought it might be with that white stripe on the wing

Pure blacks can carry white posterior to the Speculum but do not show the a white stripe anterior. The bird shows a lot of posterior white for a pure black, but it does not look to show the white to the anterior that would indicate a hybrid, I would say certainly not a direct mallard x black cross from what I can see.
