Looking For Decoy Rigging Supplies

Looking for any advice as to where to purchase clips, line, hardware, etc. for rigging decoys on long lines. I have 30 cedar bluebill decoys that I would like to set up.

How heavy of an anchor would I need? Would I set out 10 decous per line? Any advice on how to do it and where to buy the supplies would be appreciated.

Lou Tish at Lock Stock and Barrel should jump on this and I am sure he can get you what you need.

Here is one source. For anchors I use one quart plastic milk bottles filled with concrete. cut off the top of the bottles and put in a eye hook. Old shash weights also work if you can find them. When you ask how much weight that depends on how much wind and how deep the water.

brian, id reccomend memphis net and twine for clips and hardware. you can get cord from them too. lots of ways to rig so i wont get into it too much but 10-15 dekes per line is fine. window sash weights work good for anchors but 2-3lbs of lead on each end will work for most conditions too. make your dropper lines a minimum of 3'. hope that helps. best, mark

memphis net for the tarred twine (#120 for mainline, # 96 for droppers)and doctari for the clips were the cheapest last time I bought. On the Chesapeake I am using 5lb plate wieghts for wieght lifting, on each end and 2-3ft droppers.

Do you guys all use droppers?
Years ago I rigged mine, fore and aft with tarred 1/4" line. 12 per line with 7# sash weights for anchors. They set and pull in minutes, no snarls, no unclipping, right into barrels or fish totes. I know other guys rigs are the same with up to 15 decoys per line.

how do you navigate your boat or dog through that setup? plus how do you hide your cord when its close to the surface from wary divers? in my area, which has very clear water, the redheads would laugh at us on a calm day. mark

SNL corp in Sabastian FL for your longline clips. I just ordered 100 w/ swivels about $40. 00 last year. For your tarred line the Gearworks in Riverhead NY. Anchors West Marine.
SNL Corp. 1-800-330-3087
Gearworks 1-631-369-1140
West Marine has stores everywhere
SNL and Gearworks are commercial fishing supply houses and have the lowest prices by far. Window sash weights work fine for anchors and there free. I like free.

I highly recommend Decoy Rigs [Whiting, Indiana]. Bob Metrich has everything you need for Longlines; snaps, swivels, line, etc... Bob will custom-make what you want or you can buy the components and make them yourself. Bob is very knowledgeable about what he sells and has been using longlines longer than he has been selling them. Give Bob a call at (219)659-8371 and have him send you a catalog along with the samples of his lines, etc........ Also, Bob is a member here.

Mark, Not sure why you'd think it would be hard to navigate in the rig, just drive through the lanes, you know where the lines are exactly. Don't need or want a dog for offshore shooting, thats what the boat is for, :)

"Wary divers" ?, Your divers must have gone to Ivy league schools,... ours just pitch in and get shot, lol.
