I would love to find a turn of the century workbench out of a carvers shop, but I know thats going to be like a needle in a haystack. So I would like to see if anyone has pics of old timers shops, so I can get idea what they would have been using.

I am looking to put it in house and use as painting bench. I saw a old workbench at an antique shop down by my dads this weekend that may suffice. But want to see some pics first.

Thanks

Bill

I am not sure if this is exactly what you're looking for, but I believe it is what you're asking for-

A gentleman by the name of Miles Hancock lived and carved many a decoy on Chincoteague Island Virginia from sometime in the nineteen twenties up until hs death in, (I believe, 1977). I am fortunate enough to be able to stay there, at his former home periodically. Believe it or not, the first time I entered the shop, only a couple years ago, there were still a few wood chips laying on the floor!

This is an outside shot of the old decoy shed-

Here is a photo of the carving bench. If you look closely, you can see the brush marks on the wall from his painting-

And here is a product of his shed-

By the way, Miles played a small cameo part in the film "Misty of Chincoteague" where he played himself.

I may have a few more, but I'll have to dig them up later.
