Looks like another combat victin.

A few minutes ago I looked out the kitchen window and saw this scene by the pond. A Tom decided to give a crippled Tom (laying down) a hard time.




But the crippled long beard would have none of that and sent him on his way as he limped around on one leg.


The other birds left after getting a drinlk, but the old long beard stayed behind as he could not keep up with them.


The old Tom has been laying down resting his leg ofr awhile now.
I'll keep an eye on him and if he does not get better I may have to take him, otherwise a coyote might get him tonight.

Awesome Dave! I believe I'd have to put the ol boy out of his misery and then enjoy him for dinner... but then again, I'm just a young punk. I got out for the first time on Friday morning (season has been open for a month now) and didn't hear anything. If I saw a scene like you've pictured, my buddy and I would have both had a bird!

Kyle & Andrew,

Well as it worked out this evening, the old sore footed Tom managed to fly up into one of the bigger oaks in the front yard and I watched him as he laid down on a big branch for the night. If he is still around here in the morning he just might make it. I saw a jake that was limping pretty good this afternoon. These Spring breedings seasons are not easy on the poor boys.

Andrew, tell John that Boo-Boo says hi.

Kyle, I hope you get a chance to get out again before your season ends.
