Lost our Boy!

We got Parker when he was 7 weeks from a SGT of mine. He was a big fluff ball.
He turned out to be one big yellow lab, 125 lbs in his prime. Had a great personality and loved everyone. He had a great love of puppys for a male, we often called him a mother hen.
Last fall I built a ramp and deck on the back of the house so we could move him into the house permanently.
He was really showing his age at 12 and I knew he needed to be house kept. About 6 months age he started to refuse his dry food so we went to canned food . about 3 months ago he started to refuse canned so we went to people food(chicken, beef and any thing we ate he got some).
In the last few weeks he started to get real picky and then 2 weeks ago stopped eating all together . Had all the signs of shutting down.
At 1:19 yesterday morning he passed at 12 and a half years old. He never did great things but was a great dog, he was the king of our kennels and would lay out in the compound and watch the younger labs play.He was a corner block of our labs. He lives on in our dogs.
Out of the 16 dogs we have we have the following
3 daughters, Maggie,Rosey and Amber. 3 Grand daughter, Raven,Taz and Kimber and a grandson Cooper.

He will be missed more than words can tell.

Doug and family,
Please accept my sincere condolences for your loss.
We went through the same thing losing our black lab "JETT' at twelve and a half years. We went through the same shut down process and fed him what he wanted until he refused his favorite which was venison hamburger.

It is approximately one year later i sit here very tired after sleeping in my recliner last night with our newest family member, 8 week old "Rufus" a red Pudelpointer.
He is a handful, i hope i am up to the challenge. I have already thought of changing his name to "Chewbacca".

So sorry to hear of your loss. Went through the same scenario with my black lab "Gauge" a year ago and his memory still brings a tear to my eye. The thing to take heart in is that these dogs are loved and given homes that thousands of dogs would have loved to have! I have a new Black lab "Huckleberry" to help ease the pain. Great photos!

I am sooooo sorry Doug! They are family.... and the special ones are at the top of the tree... Always cherish the memories!

So sorry for your loss Doug.

Been there several times, and I have two Black Girls right now.

They just don't live long enough...

My sincere condolonces to you and your family.

Doug/family, Sorry to hear about your loss, I can related personally my old boy is 13 and starting to fail a bit more each week. I feel he will likely not make the summer. Hope your hearts heal quickly and you never forget the good times you had with you ole boy.

Doug, I am so sorry for your loss. We have been there several times and it always sucks. He will be waiting at the rainbow bridge with all of our good dogs and hunting buddies. I'm sure my Yukon Jack and him will hit it off.

You are right Tom! I am sure Grizzly, Rex, and Snoopy ( and a few others) are greeting him, and showing him the ropes while he waits for you across the Bridge.

So sorry for your loss. Sadly,I"ve been down that road several times. My take away is that if they had a full life and made a difference. Then, they met their goal. I do regret, I didn't enjoy the next pup for it's own special qualities soon enough. Missed the joy of puupy time.

Doug: Very sorry to hear about the loss of your buddy Parker. A few weeks ago, I had to "put down" our aging family pet, Brandy. She was an 11 year old border collie. It's never easy losing our canine companions. Condolences to you and family.

Karen andI would like to offer our most sincere condlences to you and your family. Like many others who have posted, we are about to experience a similar heartbreak for the seventh time;while an inevitable event, it never gets any easier to endure.

Doug, we are so sorry for your loss. There is no doubt that he was "the" building block of your kennel and because of him the two of you have such a great line of Labradors. You did everything you could do to help him. He will live on in your hearts forever.
Al
