Lyn Lee Scull Boat

I received some good information for my A.A.Wigeon last time I posted thank you all .
Here is what I am doing so far on my scull boat .
Maybe someone out there has a few more ideas for the inside of a west coast scull boat !
Will I started working on the inside of my scull boat.
So far I have built one shelf that was installed next to the oar boot .
The first thing I did was put the oar in the boot -- then I got in the boat and moved the oar around like I was sculling to see how much room I had for the shelf .
I picked up a container from the hardware store and used the bottom for the mold .
Then I layered fiberglass cloth and polyester structural lay-up resin on it tell it was about 3/16 thick .
After it cured I removed it from the mold and cut it down to the size I needed .
I made a brace the same way .
The shelf was installed using epoxy resin , chopped fiberglass , milled glass fibers , and fiberglass cloth .
I also put four drain holes in the shelf .
I am not sure what's next.
Any ideas ??

Leonard,
that is a very nice photo demo of how easy it is to make a one off part out of fiberglass. The Scull boat is a very nice shape. Where and when was it made?

Should be a deadly set up for the fall.

On my Merrymeeting style sculler I have fiberglass "pockets", one on each side, and the same layout for the front gunner.

They are just big enough to fit all the loose items you might have sitting on the floor.

Love the idea of making a FG shelf like that! (with drain holes). It's light, strong, and fits in with the over-all look of the boat, despite the extra work. I'm sure you could buy a separate shelf from a boating supply company... but it just wouldn't "fit"/look nice.

Bob -- thank you
The scull boat was made in Benecia California -- late 60's early 70's by hunters Lyn and Lee .
The shelf was a lot easier than I thought it would be to build and put on the boat .

Anthony -- thank you
I have a couple more ideas for the boat and will post pictures as I get them done .
I ordered paint from Lock Stock and Barrell today .
Hopefully when the inside of the boat is painted the shelf will look like it was always a part of the boat .

My boat is a two man boat but it has far less room than your Merrymeeting Sculler .
It would be nice to have more room in the boat .
