Mark W....you still messing with motors.

Ed,
That 2.5h.p. has a 5/8" output shaft. Stump jumper showed the kits work with 1" and up. You could get a new u-joint but 3/4" to 5/8" will be tricky to find. Also they require a certain height for the output shaft as well. You may have already resolved these issues but I thought I would bring it up. Shawn

Shawn,

My thoughts were maybe the junior stump jumper frame with a 3/4" universal could accept a sleeve to reduce to the 5/8" shaft size. I do need to investigate further.

I'm still messing around. I have a couple of things going and come this hunting season I'll have something worked out. My son's baseball season is winding down so I whould have some time now to work on some of the things I haven't been a ble to do like the mud motor.

I think that you shouldn't have any trouble finding a UJ end yolk with a 5/8"" hole. If you can't let em know and I will talk to my UJ vendor and see if I can't help you with this.

Ed,
I did not see the little frame! That should make a neat little set-up. It should make your fatboy a go anywhere machine. Shawn

Thanks Mark...We'll see how far this goes when I get the boat in the water and get a feel for it. Are you still working on a mini or decide against it.

Ed L.

yep - still working on a mini.

You ever consider using a lovejoy connector for what you are trying to do? I think it was Mark Cheney who suggested the use of one of these for an application I was/am working on. They mate various things togther that have differing diamters, profiles whatnot.

Mark W

Not Lovejoy specific but I've used jaw type couplings in industrial designs such as motor mounting when isolation mounts are used and vibration is an issue. I've never considered it in this application though.

Ed L.

Yes. I had thought that I would have had something welded up by now. I have just been real busy. I do believe that I have solved all of the relavant isuses finally. Although I am welding up a 2.5 HP honda - because I have one. I think that the end product will wind up being a 1.6 Hp Robin through a 3/1 reducer, however It will weigh under 25 LBs and turn a 6x4 or 5 prop.

Mark

Mark,

Please keep us posted on how your 2.5hp works out. I have also recently purchased a new original fatboy and have been looking at a mudmotor in this hp range. I'd be very interested to see how this works for you. I've looked at your site, but was a bit concerned about the higher HP's which you offer being used on the FB.

Best of luck.

James.....what you got there? Nice looking outfit. Seems you've been busy. I like it. Is that your design? Please tell us about it. I have saved a post from another site where a guy has a bill of material and very similiar frame design for a 2.5hp motor.

When I lived in Centerton, AR I always wanted to try hunting Grand lake. You ever hunt there?

Take care,

Ed L.

James,
That is slick!! I love seeing what others come up with using ingenuity. Like Ed, I too would love to hear more about your motor. Once again great job. Shawn

Ed

I wish I could take all the credit for the design. I took a look at all the mud motors out there and tried to make it as simple and light as possible. I Spent about three months on the mud motor, lots of thinking not much doing. My motor is the same as the link above . If you go with love joy don't tell them what you are going to do with it, they will not sell any u joints for human transportation of any sort.

I do hunt Grand,Gibson,Copan,Kaw sometimes. I hunt eufaula most! because that is where the ducks want to be. If you come to Oklahoma we will go..I only hunt 3 or 4 day a week. This year maybe a little different due to the price of fuel.

James,

Is your frame Aluminum or Steel. What do think yours weighs? Did you use a standard mud motor prop?

I've fished Lake Eufaula quit a bit. I used to head over though Tahlequha and pick up hwy 65. Down towards McAlester there was a couple of places where you could park off the hwy and I'd throw my kayak in a fish the back waters. It figures I never though about duck hunting there!

Hi Mark Cheney

Oh yes still running your prop, working great. 6.5 mph (gps) on my broad bill with the transom that is 20 inches high. The summer project boat I am building will have a 13 in. transom, that is the angle I built the mud motor to. I should pick up a couple of mph at the designed angle. I have put 5 hours on the motor through typical duck waters mud, stumps and dead fall. I tried a love joy needle bearing u joint (NB6B) it's not going to hold up. I talked to love joy about there NB10B, but when they found out what I was going to use it for they said not just no but no way. Would not even sell one to me. Going to try to get rid of the u joint and go with with a coupling.

More than half the fun is just getting there!

James,

I believe that the Love Joy UJ is more evpensive than a traditional UJ. I Will get you some part nos. in the morning. I have bought them from more than one vendor. I think that they are available in 5/8 bore. I use an automotive style with needle bearings.

Regards,

Mark
