All,
I am in the process of building a boat. My basic design is a flat back pirogue, but it is a touch wider than others I've seen. It is made to float very shallow and allow me to pole easily while chasing redfish and ducks. I was going to leave the sheer high because I liked the look, but after thinking about it, it isn't really practical for my uses. I've been looking at sneak box designs and I am going to incorporate the flush sheer, cambered deck and grass rails into my hull in order to decrease the windage and make it easier to brush in. How much can I camber the decks and still comfortably stand on them? I know too much camber will make my ankles hurt when I stand up there fishing or poling. Right now the hull is 52" across the mid frame and 15" deep. If I camber the deck 4" over the mid frame, it will end up being 48" wide. Is a 4" camber over 48" inches uncomfortable to stand on when fishing? The camber must remain constant from bow to stern because I am working with plywood and it will only flex one way at a time.
I've been tracking my progress on microskiff.com. If you are interested, I've included a link. Right now I am away from home, so all I can do is brainstorm about my next steps.
