Midwest Boatbuilders Gathering--30 Day Countdown

Just a reminder that the Midwest Boatbuilders Gathering will take place on June 30 in Onalaska, Wisconsin.

So far I've received responses from 13 guys on this site. There will probably be a few local boat builders joining us as well.

We'll be part of the Brice Prairie Pig Roast and Canoe Race. The organizers had placed us off by ourselves last year (and downwind from the rest of the people) because they didn't know what kind of unruly mess they were inviting. But they were so impressed with our sleek boats, Ed's stylish van, and Huntindave's winsome demeanor, that this year they are placing us closer to the center of the action.

You can go to this website for directions, map, and information about getting tickets for the pig roast: http://www.briceprairiecanoerace.org/index.html

The Pig Roast is an all-day event, going from 11am until 7pm. Let's plan to meet at noon. That should give folks who are travelling to and from in the same day plenty of time to get each direction. If you need help finding lodging, let me know.

Rick,
I am planning on making the trip. Am excited about meeting some of the rest of the guys. I hope to bring three boats with one for sale so everybody bring money.I am selling my Kanyak that I have outgrown. $200.00 to a good home. Then I can think about building a Scaup (hopeless I know) I will also have the AA Broadbill famous in song and story of flying through the air off the trailer and losing the 35hp in the first 100 yards and the Poleboat that can be motored. Keep us posted on developments.

Rick,

I too am still planning to attend,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,but,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, It just occurred to me the other day that I won't have the whole weekend free as I had hoped. Seems my two grown daughters are planning a family picture taking session for Sunday the first of July. The 1'st of July is special to me and my wife as that day will mark our 35th anniversary. I'll take this time to confess to making one of the wisest decisions in my life the day I asked her to marry me. Lucky me.

So I'll be there and leave relative early, can't look sleepy eyed for the photo. ;>)

Rick,

Been loitering a little lately but without any projects, site related I haven't had much to say. I'm still planning on coming but since Vickie has elected to further her education during the summer session and may not be able to come with me that stylish (13mpg) van may be replaced with my Jeep for the day.

Looking forward to meeting some of the other members from the site.

Take care,

Ed L.

Rick,

If I don't have to work that weekend I might try and come up. Any good campgrounds nearby? I don't need anything fancy, just enough for a truck camper. Are dogs welcome? Moose might want to come along!

Thanks,
Jim S

Dang. My interest in joining the fun is very high, but the logistical travel factor is growing to the point of becoming insurmountable.... :-(

I think I had best take my name off the "maybe" list and add it to the "probably not" list, and then try for a miracle...

Best,

Brian F.

Thanks Rick! I just remembered a friend of mine has a spot set up for campers at his farm just outside of Lansing. That wouldn't be too far of a drive plus I know there's always a spot available there. Hopefully they don't come up with work for that weekend!

Hey Rick -

I am still planning on attending. Unfortunately, I was just scheduled to be at a customer site the whole week of the 25th. The plan is to come home Friday evening but one never knows how these things turn out. Last day to register is today and I have done so.

Mark W

I think you only have register if your going to race a canoe.

I,m still planning on being there.

According to the website it is the last day to register for the canoe races. I had thought (and wrongly so) that it was the last day to buy a ticket for the pig roast as well. I know that I waswrong on that as you can buy a pig roast ticket the day of the event. I didn't want to eat just hot dogs so I was going to send some money early.

See you then...
