Sad tale - probably not going to have a happy ending.
Obviously, any "experimental hunt" is better not attempted in the recent weather conditions.

This hits close to home for me. From my home town.

Odd the kayak was upright and no water in it.

Curious as to the type of kayak and did he launch at the Hoppy's Landing? That is an interesting stretch of water for a kayak when even a light wind is against the tide. Hunted Little Harbor for years and the search and rescue on the water has their work cut out for them with all the uncharted submerged rocks and that is why I no longer venture there.
Very sad situation as many have learned on their own without the guidance of seasoned baymen and got lucky. The more time I spend on the water in the winter I feel like I am tempting statistics even though I am overly cautious. Let this be a reminder to us all even if we are in large boats accidents happen.
