Mississippi Homebuilt Registration Question

I hope it's not as bad as Illinois! I started a boat in January and found out there is a new procedure for registering a homebuilt but I can't find two people who know what to do. I gave up. My skeleton is leaning against the wall in the garage and I ordered a boat form MoMarsh!

Take care,

Ed L.

Hey Ed why not finish the boat, send it across the line to someone in Iowa have them register it. Then bring it back to Illinois and register it here using the regestration from Iowa? Can you do that? Be damn shame to give up on it, it looked pretty good from what I saw.

Mike,

That is a thought. Someone else suggested I send a letter with my registration fee stating the boat was obtained in MN where duckboats don't have to be registered as long as they are not motorized and used only for duck hunting.

Not sure what I'd do with a 11' wooden boat as well as a 11' fiberglass boat.....;-) I'll probably finish it just to say I did.

I'd be happy to do that for you Ed. Hard telling when I might be able to return the boat tho, might be a while.

Thanks Kevin. I had looked at both of those forms and figured that might be the procedure but wasn't sure. I'll pass it along to the buyer of the NFZ, as he's from MS.

Thanks again,
Brad

Geez, thanks Dave! That would be swell!!

Maybe we could swap boats. I could always use a spare Starcraft...hehe

Take care,

Ed,
Only trouble with that is, as of tonight, I don't own a Starcraft anymore. I do have a float tube I could swap.

Dave,

I saw that you pulled your ad. Good for you. I knew that boat wouldn't last long. Hell the motor alone was worth more than you were asking for the whole rig. Oh, and after my experience with a float tube I'll pass....;-)

Take care,

Ed L.

It's just as easy here, Brad, except that you have to be at the branch office on the day that the state boat inspector for that area is there. Bring a few receipts.

Ed.

I had to go first to the state marine board and then the sheriff who did the measurements and and check the safety equipment. Its seems it harder to get your boat registered if its home built

Ed, Hush on the MN registration, don't want anyone to find out. I registered mine to use in the off season with a motor and it was -1. Walk in. 2. Pay the money. 3. Walk out and put the sticker on. 4. Happy boating. P.S. If you don't want to take Dave Mc up on his offer I would make the same but you would have to get er done on the way to ND. What do you think?? Oh yeah by the way, in MN it is a whole lot harder to get a trailer transfered or registerd homebuilt than any boat.
