Thought Id get at least one duck hunt in this season, haven't felt much like hunting this year.
So I took off today because it was going to be in the 30's which is warm for this time of year.
I used my poke boat because I didn't have far to go from the ramp and the water level is low due to work on the damn spillway above.
Set up at 12:30 and was done at 3:00.
A limit of ducks 3 mallards and 3 Golden eye.
Saw thousands of birds , I saw one flock of pintails that was at least 50 birds, saw lots of golden eyes mallards and Buffy's too.
At no time did I not here the sound of wings in the air.




 
That is really nice, Doug. Glad you were finally able to get out. Nice looking birds. I sure enjoyed the pictures

Do y'all normally have that many birds this late in the season?
 
Awesome hunt Doug. I might have to bring my poke up there to hunt with you some day. I would love to tell all these fellas down here I paddled up and down the Missouri river and hunted it in my poke. I would not tell them what part of the river I did that on :)

I made sure to get some nice pics , normally the camera wont work because its to cold for it.

The area I hunt is one of the few spots that doesn't freeze over so all the birds are there that are in the area.
With all the snow cover a lot of the birds have moved out but still a lot around. All the puddle ducks feed in the fields.

One of those short, quick hunts that live in memory and can define a whole season, even if it's the only trip. Are those decoys custom-painted? They look really good.

The boat is a Poke Boat that I have had for about 25 yrs now and the decoys are Autumn Wings, except for the redhead which is a cork decoy that came from the DU convention from last july out here and the sleeper buffy is cork that came from the auction here to help Jode after his fire.
