More re-paints

hey kev, just starting carving some barnegat bay style mergs and gonna be doing black ducks next, how do you make the pad weights, i have been thinking on where or how to make a mold?

Kevin, I don't know what they looked like before, but they look damn good now!! Love your feather painting interpretation, and the soft face painting of the black duck. Looks like you need to get busy and carve a rig of them.

Congratulations, excellent!

Keith

Jay, the pad weights that you see there in the background were formed from sheets of lead. A friend and talented carver Lenny turned me onto this. I bought them from a guy in PA. I tried the pouring mold thing last year and had a terrible time with it. They looked lousy and are very brittle. I've added a pic of the molded ones. Look at a plumbing supply store or maybe roofing supply for sheet lead. They will be attached with silicon bronze nails. I like it much better.

Keith, they were painted with acrylics and were virtually all black just like this one. This was my second attempt at the feathering on this bird. I've drawn some new patterns and have some cedar ready for cutting. I will be getting to them soon. Thanks again for all of the reference pics.............................Kevin

Kevin.....you aren't marking your uploads as IN LINE......check the box so that they show as "inline".......

when you are ready to insert the photo into the text place the cursor iwhere you want the upper left hand corner of the photo to be.....leave it there and run your mouse to the next to the last icon on the toolbar, (looks like a tiny framed picture).....click on that icon and a popup will ask WHERE your upload is.....click the INLINE button and the picture will appear.....if you have multiple pictures just space down a couple of times so that the pictures don't but up against one another or run off to the left side......

Michael, I like the easy clean up of the acrylics ofcourse. But, I would never go back. The consistancy of the oils is much better and I really like the finish better as well. It may be phycological but I also feel that they will never need to be re-painted again. Touch-ups maybe............................Kevin

kev,
you omitted the neck collar on that little brant-- nice repaint-the off season should provide adequate cure time.

Nice job Kevin are you scatching the feather work in, or are you painting them.
take care and God Bless

Hey George. The black is not yet cured. I will be sure to add the white to the neck.

Eddie, I brushed the detail on. No scratching here.

Chief Bob, I'm at work as well. I will call you later. With the snow and wind coming lets hope for a quiet day.
