Howdy Steve,

Hope all is well. I have a favor to ask.
One of my gunning partners is heading your way in a couple of weeks for his job as a sales rep. He is looking for some leads on reputable guides in your area so that he might contact some to research (book) for a hunt next season.

I don't have a clue on North West Coast leads, so I am hoping you could point me in the right direction and I can pass the info. on.

As to fowling and other such essential things in life back here in the heartland. It is Hot and Muggy and my duck club marsh looks to be down about two feet with little or no rain in sight. I am still teaching and did'nt get the axe for next year. I had a cool Washington State story told to me the other day by my old man.
Seems in the early 1800's some of our family left the farm and moved to Corvalis "sp?" and from there some of them went to the coast and ended up working at a boat factory of all places. Barn building and boat building must have had some similarities.

Best regards as always,
Ballard

Northwest ties......funny isn't it how kids can reach "majority" before they hear "family stories"....I remember going to a a family reunion in N.Ga. right after I got out of College, an "interesting event" made even more interesting by two things. The first one being the fact that it was the first time I had ever heard about the patriarch of the "Black Sheep" branch of the family from Texas who had migrated there after the Civil War due to "indescretions" committed while dressed in bedsheets, (and who was later hung there ove some disputes over the ownership of some horses) And the second being the presnce of the very fetching "fourth or fifthish" cousin, but thats another story......I remember asking my Mom later why I had never heard of that branch of the family before and was advised, "we don't talk about THEM". Hopefully the relatives of yours that made it to Covalis, and later the coast, were more highly thought of than the Texas Suttons.

Anyway, on the hunting thing. If this guy is a good friend of yours then you need to just give him my contact information and I'll be happy to meet him while he's here for a beer, and to discuss when he wants to come back, what he would like to do while he's here, and then I can decide who the best people to take him out would be. Heck if things work out and I'm going to be here when he's planning on coming back, and if he wants to hunt the salt for SeaDucks and Goldeneyes we might just be able to hook up. If he wants to go over to the Eastside and hunt Divers on the Columbia then we've got the guy for that job right here, Fred Slyfield, (Fred doesn't post much but he's "the man" for Divers, and "incidental" puddle ducks, on the Eastside of the State)...

So just put him in touch with me and we'll get something figured out.....

Good luck on the rain thing....seems like no one has the "right" amount this year....you're either in a drought or a flood with no happy medium.....

Oh, congratulations on not getting fired again...thats always a good thing....or so I'm told....

Steve
