My Bankes Intruder Sneakboat Blind Build

Will you be keeping the battery on the right side or moving to the left for weight distribution?

I am sure Bankes will be selling more of these by the time that Rob is done. I am going to check these boats out again at the Tuckerton show.

Great work Rob. Everything about the boat to your workspace is impressive! I am going to print these pics to keep for the day when I aquire a boat like this! Thanks for sharing!

Right now Im keeping the battery on the Right. It is alot smaller than it looks in the photo. A deep cycle wheel chair battery. Im putting the 3 gallon gas tank in the back left under the seat.

Rob, Your boat is very nice. I love the well thought out details. This is the reason I started here, boats and boat stuff. Not so sure about working on the boat in the house though. My wife is very undrstanding but that does push the envelope. I should post a pic of my garage but for some reason I can't find my camera, last time I saw it I was taking boat pics Hmmm. Again- VERY NICE WORK. Thanks for the link to the netting.

Rob,

Did you get raw edge or rope bound?

Looks like you got raw edge and added your own rope??

I got the Raw edge and the Diamond cut. Yes I just added my own rope.

NOTE: I went back and looked at my invoice. The Net I bought is the 1 3/4 inch size. Not the larger like I thought.

Rob- as I stated before your build is awesome. If I may ask a question at the risk of sidetracking your post a little. Can you tell me why you chose the Bankes Intruder vs. a Barnegat Bay Sneak Boat or a Devlin Black Brant?

As I am a NJ coastal hunter, I have a strong desire to move to hunting out of a sneak box. Smaller, simpler, historic to the area, etc. I am leaning toward one of the Devlin Black Brants or a traditional Perrine BBSB.

Why the Intruder? How do you suspect it will perform compared to the other two designs mentioned? Are there limitations to some of the designs that made you go with the Intruder?

Thanks for your thoughts on the matter.

Im 49, Was looking for one last rig to set up and hunt. I had an Arthur Armstrong Wigeon in the 1980's and early 90's. Loved hunting out of that boat and shot a Bunch of Ducks in it. Had several problems with the boat. I knew I wanted a boat I didnt have to work on. One set up on a Planning Hull. Would float even if I Speared a wave. Had a Sexy line to it. All my research kept coming back to one Company. Ron Bankes Marine. I love the looks of a traditional sneakbox. I think the Bankes Intruder will work better for me where I hunt. Its close enough in design to still be a sneakboat.

Great Question CAnderson. I spent just over a year tring to decide which Boat I wanted.

Rob-

Thanks for your thoughts. I will need to consider the hull design in relation to the water I hunt from. I would look at the Intruder as being a "fowl" weather open water (bay) boat. I guess, I would like a sneak box that could get me across the bays here if the weather gets a little snotty. I have a 16' boat that hunts 3 right now. I would like to hunt out of sneak boxes with my son. He is only 11 y.o. now, so I have some time before he is legally permitted to run anything with a 9.9-15 hp motor.

That will give me time to decide, plan and build. . .with him.

I am really enjoying this thread. I ahve a Carsten's Canvasback that I have been working on and I see some good things here that I will incorporate into my boat set-up. I do have a couple of questions for you:

1) Do you plan to add natural vegetation for additional camo?

2) What type of jerk rig do you use?

3) How do you sit in the boat and do you use something to cover the opening and yourself while you are hunting?

THanks again for the great thread. And I am also full of Shop Envy!!

Thanks John,

1. About 75 % of the time I hunt brush piles that float down the river and get stuck on Sandbars. For those I just use the net. When the river floods into grass or brush I do cable tie those Item to the blind. I try to always match the area I hunt.

2. Just a Simple jerk rig for me. 8 pound boat anchor. To the anchor I tie on 2 feet of bungie cord. I tie about 3 feet of decoy line to the bungie (More if the water is deeper). Then a snap hook. I put the hook on the back of the decoy keel. From the front of the keel I tie about 30 yards of decoy line. A snap on the end of the line.

I snap the line on to the loop on my boat. unwind every thing and throw out the anchor so every thing is pulled tight. Then just pull on the handle in the boat for movement.

3. I will sit in the front of the boat and face the rear. (Working on the photos that will show this). Yes I will make a cover with the Handrail net and camo nets to cover the cockpit and the motor also. About a week out on those projects.

Im getting a little weary of Cable ties. About 1500 on the boat now. Lots of ends to cut. Told My Grandson last night I wish he was 4 instead of 1. I would put him to work.

This weekend I got all those Cable tie ends cut. Started on the Hood.

Looks great!!

I am sure given the details you are going through that you will be a step ahead, but since I seem to catch every stinking edge that is sharp with something precious, watch that bolt end!! plastic cover or cut it, grind smooth!! I never seem to miss the opportunity to ruin gear or cut my self.

Well, Rob, you got me all excited about duck season. Keep those pictures coming. I am enjoying the step by step process that you are taking.

Im with You Eric. All bolt ends will be cut off after Im sure Im done taking the nut off. Duck season is hard on equipment no reason to add to the wear and tear.

Thanks for the answers.

Where in OK do you hunt? - no specifics wanted, just general area. I live in the AR River Valley a bit East of Ft. Smith (Subiaco) and I hunt the river here. Looks like we have very similar hunting rigs and styles. I am looking forward to viewing your continued progress. I will be starting my boat project later in the year - probably not until September. Way too much work to do on the house!!

THanks!
