Thats really cool. I always figured tog were more of deep water fish, how deep were you free-diving?
Looks like there was not shortage, how do you decide which one to stick?

You can find tog all over deep and shallow. The deeper you go the bigger they get. we were diving in 30 to 35 feet. As for picking and choosing, just pick a big one. The bigger they are the uglier they get. The nice thing about them is they are a real curious fish and the small ones tend to check you out while you are down there. This helps bring in the big boys.

I wish we could take blacks now. I was diving last week and saw a few nice ones. Our season does not open till Oct 5th.

Cool video. I need to get a gopro. We have gotten a couple taug and a couple triggers the last few days.

It's not hard to find Blacks over 16". As far as Triggers go, we get a bunch of those gray Ocean Triggers also. They are very good eating.

Mike, where do you fish/spear out of? My boat is in Manasquan and I've always wanted to try to spear fish but I dont know anyone that does it so I am not looking for anything other than advice really? Any pointers would be great

Grey Triggerfish are my favorite reef fish to eat. They are tough to clean but fantastic fried up.
We used to catch them all the time when I fished offshore, I would rather have a cooler full of triggers than any other fish.
