My girl...

Pat - the second shot says it all..........

I have a picture that I keep on my bulletin board of my third retriever which happened to be a brown female and was clearly the best that I got to train and hunt with. Losing a duck on the last day of our season this year has me thinking hard about maybe getting # 4.

I remember too that, even though mine was particularly good, she would manage at least once a year to be a caution. Once up in PEI, after a great duck hunt over an oyster lease, I was helping to pick up the decoys etc. and we were about to travel by boat back to our launch spot. My friend had taken a brief hike over the nearby swale, found a fish, long dead, and proceeded to celebrate the hunt by rolling in same until she smelled so bad, you could see the aura upon her return to the boat.

I heard a lot about my great retriever on the ride back !

Great stories Dick. Each of us having the privilege of owning a great retriever has many great memories like those. It's awesome to see people's faces light up when they talk about them. What a blessing they are to our lives.

I never did get that whole rolling thing...

I hope you are well my friend. Thanks for sharing... Pat

I love that second photo Pat. Here's my girl Lucy. Making memories but none under the bow yet. She can usually be found under my desk though. What brand of double ender is the skiff in the photo?

I never did get why dogs had to roll in dead fish either!! MY first Lab and Chessie both loved to do that. I, too, lost another Chessie, Molly, last duck season, during the season. What a loss!! I did not want to hunt for a couple weeks but I finally did in honor of her, and I, too, keep her collar in my shell bag. That way she is still with me chasing the ducks!! Great memories!!!!!! John P.S. I have not gotten a new dog yet but I will in time.

Great picture's of mans best friend. What great memories we all have of
our loyal friends. Do any of you think these loyal companions have a sixth
sense about them? I know I do.

Ed - it's a Fiberdome Widgeon. Bought it new in the 80's. Still use it, still love it. That boat has taken me alot of places big boats can't... Pat
