NDR - A Firewood Box for my Tractor - Part 1 of 2

This past winter I made a significant improvement to my firewood cutting capabilities. My Massey-Ferguson 1540 - a 40-horse diesel with 4WD - has been a reliable help for 8 or 9 years now in numerous jobs around the farm. But, when cutting firewood, there were limitations. Carrying the chainsaw and its assorted gear plus bringing back a bucket full of stove-length wood was a challenge. A handy solution was provided by Tractor Supply in the form of a nice heavy frame that fits on my 3-point hitch.- they offer it as the CountyLine Carry All.

The frame comes bare - available for anything that I could dream up. So, I first bolted an open box on her to hold about twice as much wood as my bucket. This makes each trip back the woodshed more efficient and it puts weight on the rear wheels. Without this weight, traction could be tricky in greasy snow or ice, even with chains.

I then proceeded to add the "custom features" - always the fun part. A "holster" carries my saw.

A pair of hooks carries my chain. I will probably add another to the starboard side soon.

I also added boat cleats either side - so I can lash in long stuff. I've used the box to carries poles for birdhouses and a ladder, for example. A length of quarter-inch nylon now resides in my tool box as well.

And - since I am WAY behind in my firewood supply, I will be using this rig lots this Fall...

NOTE: Best of all is the toolbox. It carries gas, oil, extra chains, gloves, chaps - and tools. (I just hit the limit on the number of attachments - so Tool Box photos will be in Part 2.....)

All the best,

SJS

Was that you on Youtube? I saw one just like that last week.. saw holder and all!!!!

But he was on a Kubota... and much younger.....

My splitter runs off the PTO on my MX4800... .so that wouldn't work for me.

Very nice, but, you could have used a already made apple box that you pick up with the forks of the lifter, then you can put it anywhere you want and drive away, and still have the forks usable for moving the rest of your heavy stuff, as long as it's on pallets. [cool]
